I am wanting to put a disc brake front axle on my 66 FJ40 and I am basically wondering how hard this is going to be so with that said I have some questions.

1. What year axle should I be looking for to do this conversion.
2. Am I going to need to have modify my drive shafts.
3. Am i going to have to upgrade my brake system
4. Do I need to get a new rear axle as well or can I use the original.

If there is anything else that I need to take into consideration before undertaking this conversion please let me know.

1. I am not as faimiliar as many on the older trucks but if your front axle is the ball& claw design just replace the whole axle from soemthing 9/75 or newer. If not any 79-85 minitruck or 60-series is a donor for the parts needed to convert your axle to FDB.
2. the drive flanges will not be the same. Buy ones that will from any of the mud vendors.
3. Most liekly new MC and booster will be in your future. You may need an adapter as you probably have a rib on the firewall where this mounts causign interference problems.
4. no if the ring and pinion are the same ratio front/rear.

this'll get you started. read, research...all been covered 10K times.

9/75 or newer front axle

Does anyone know where I can find a 9/75 or newer front axle. I have been looking for quite some time so if anyone can help me out with finding one around Louisiana I would be greatly appreciative.

Welcome.

Post up in the classifieds...there is a wanted section, and search the for sale adds, there are disc brake front axle assemblies in there for sale frequently...

55 series axle

Just wondering if a 55 series axle would work. I want to make sure that the width of the 55 series is the same as the 40.
