I am installing a Marlin Crawler chromoly axel/birf kit in my '77 fj40. I have replaced the rotor hub with an '81 hub and purchased new locking hubs that are supposed to fit an '81. BUT I do not have enough clearance through the locking hub to attach the c-clip to the birf. What am I missing? Any help greatly appreciated...

Is it drilled and taped for a nut and washer?

Yes , the end of the birf is drilled and tapped

Try installing a screw into the threaded hole in the shaft and try to pull the shaft out far enough to install the c-clip.

They are Warn.. supposed to fit '81 and up... which aisin model?

You need the short body aisin (79+) to use the snap ring

To use the warn you need a big washer and a bolt but i dont recommand It

Chromo birf need aisin locking hub with the chromo hub gears

While the Aisin is a little better hub there is nothing wrong with the Warn. It usually takes the bolt and washer.
