first is my reply, second is his reply, third is my initial letter to him and many other MLA's, and MP's he is the only one to have replied, i sent it to him and the others over a weekago
thank you for your reply, i bring this to your attention because. it is Transport Canada that the problem lies with, ICBC istrying to reduce the number of fatalities on our roads and i commend them for it. however, by trying to prevent imported cars from arriving into canada, some importers have instilled a certain amount of buy panic and as a result some unsafe vehicles have come to canada, and since the inspectors didnt know what they were looking at or know what to look for they have unsafely passed and are on our roads. BUT and its a BIG BUT, thefraction of those vehicles are not gonna make our roads unsafe. if ICBC wants to make our roads safer with the help of TC, then they need to re-inspect ALL vehicles 15yrs or older, why just today i saw an older truck that was rusted out, and blowing blue smoke. i have seen junk cars that have there bumpers held on by duct tape and coat hangers driving on our roads. yet these cars arent being harrassed by TC or ICBC.
contacting TC will not help our cause, because they have by way of the CBC brainwashed the general public into thnking these cars arent safe. when in fact they are safer than domestic vehicles the same age. i have emailed my concerns to you because you are someone who has power to voice the truth, and people will actually listen, i know you are not in the position to make a stand as it could hurt your party due to Auto dealers in BC not pledgeing there support or voting for your party. however, those domestic dealerships have just as much chance to make money off of these imported vehicles(because lets make this clear, the report, which i hope you read doesnt clearly state that the numbers they produced are for RHD only vehicles, it only says imported vehicles 15yrs or older), and if the laws change there will be over 1000 people losing htere jobs in Canada and many of them from BC, one BC import shop has put up over $500,000 to produce headlights and other parts to make there cars complaint to BC's standards. all that money will be forfeit and a huge loss. Mr. Premier Campbell, please think about this as if you were outside of the box with no obligations to anyone, and then see how it will affect the people of canada. BC is the leader of Canada when it comes to progressive change, and if these laws which will be changed in Canada under pressure from BC, it will have been a step backwards in progression.
