Found another FJ40! What would it take for this cruiser to be worth the $700 asking?

So I just found an ad in a little local online classfied.

    "Land cruiser fj40 - $700

I will be getting this landcruiser next weekend but wanted to see if anyone was interested in it. its late 60's early 70's I believe does not have original motor. has been sitting on farm pasture for years and years. prety rusty. I will have pictures monday or tuesday. for the right person this is a diamond in the rough."

I have $700 and you all seem to collect these things, might be fun. Plus I have the shop I could keep it at and work on it.

What I want to know is what would make this thing not worth $700?

If the body and frame are rotted then it would not be worth it.

Yeah, looks like it's parts only since they don't have the title. And judging from the pics I don't know that it'd be worth anything to me. The guy only wants $200 now, I bet he'd take $150.

    It's a '74.

By East Coast standards that looks like a very rebuildable trail rig 40 canidate to me.

Parts truck. Hell, the top alone would be worth $150, wouldn't it? Then there are all the other goodies, tranny, transfercase, doors. Drool!

Thats a keeper. Jump on it, take what you want/need and part the rest. Think of it as a service to the broader Cruiser community.

It's got the makings to be the finest cruiser in Portland or on the west coast for that matter. How'd you get so lucky?

Haha ok, I'm going to look at it today. What should I be looking for? How easy is it to apply for a lost title? Can anyone tell from the pic what engine that is?

I don't understand what you are waiting for. You stated you can get this truck for $150 and you are still asking us questions. Go buy the 40 or give someone else the info on it so they can go steal it out from under you.

You can get a title for it from a title company, around $300.

The engine looks like an F from the crappy picture.

This does not look like a late sixties, early seventies. One piece hood, wipers on bottom of windshield, factory roll bar, one piece doors and vent on the cowl on he driver's side. I would guess this a 1975.

lower wipers, 75. If stock it should have the desirable combo of 4 speed tranny and "3 speed" transfer case. A muriatic acid wash of the rust, a good primer coat, and a swan will be revealed. Stop torturing us and just get it. A lot of guys would give twice what you're paying sight unseen and they'd still be getting a fair deal.

A waste of time for the average college student. Rusty parts rig. East coast gem for sure.

Looks like it's already been a parts rig for some time. I think you could make a proffit. Not a huge proffitt. Anything that can rust looks like it's been infected. You could possibly get it on the road as a registered trail beater for under a couple thousand?

Honestly guys, I don't think I want to take the time away from my good FJ40 to play with this one, even if I could make some money. If anyone is interested PM me and I'll give you the number so one of us can take advantage of it. It's located in Scapoose, Oregon.
