I have found a bj60 on craigslist 1983 Diesel Landcruiser BJ60 pics look good still waiting on email back from owner but before I get to far I have to decide if it is worth going to haines, AK to pick up. A serious ass pain because I live in anchorage. Mapquest says a 16 hour drive. Not your normal sunday drive but out in gods country. Just want your opinion. I have been ghosting here for a few weeks and sure seems like a bunch of wrench turners unlike other places i have read at. Looking forward to hearing what you have to say. Sorry if it is too long of a post.

Forgot to add have to convince the better half that it is a great idea. I already convinced myself but you know.

as far as the fan shroud I know what the add says so far have not heard back. But anchorage does have emis similar to cali. But diesel is pretty much one look and good no tail pipe bs. It is a heck of a trip in an unknown cruiser to get it back. I have done tacoma to anchorage but that was in the wifes ride. But I would buy it for sure if the trip was easier.

when i drove up last may haines junction to tok was 35 or 40 mph due to frost heaves. Lots of fun changing tire in the middle of nowwhere so have to be careful.

Shroud looks factory. Looks like it's in pretty good shape for an '83, which would make me suspicious. Most of the early BJ's down here have some form of rust, if the body looks good, then the frame is rotten or vise versa. May not have power steering, I wouldn't be too concerned about mileage motor wise. Other parts wear out i.e. pinion bearings, knuckle bearings, transfer case idler shaft. Personally, 4,300 seems overpriced, but this is from a guy in Canada.

Man, that's a find. Check the regular stuff, then the diesel specific stuff like the sedimenter, and offer him 700 less than he's asking.

I personally inspected this cruiser a couple years ago. It has the "typical" rust, as he says. The body rust isn't too bad-but it's there. One of the frame rails may be rusted through in the rear-not sure because I opted not to completely crawl under after being turned off by the obvious rust. Please note that I wasn't really a serious buyer, just passing through town and wanted to take a look/see . He's a fine fellow and won't lie to you. He told me of a 55 in town that some guy found in the woods that's actually in pretty good condition. I didn't have time to check that one out-somewhere down by the harbor supposedly. The drive between Haines Junction and Haines is indeed spectacular.
Edit: I wouldn't worry about the ability of the cruiser to complete the trip incident free. The engine has been taken care of, and they just don't get any better than the ole 3B.

x2 on the fan shroud being factory.
Looks to be in pretty good shape, the 1983 BJ60 came factory with power steering and a 5 speed -H55F tansmission (first year offered for those two options). In the photograph it looks like the power steering reservoir/pump is missing and the bracket it's meant to be attached to is painted blue (easy to see in the photo).

Great truck, I've had the same 1983 BJ60 as my daily driver for the past 12 years.

This is a great old combination, I have roughly the same vehicle. Rust is the devil though...
Seller may be somewhat flexible as having it for sale for that long.

Not that bad looking of a BJ60. For the local market here that price would be too high, but then we have lots of typical rust BJ60's. Mine has more visible rust and it cost me a bit less than half that, if you include a few repairs needed to make it reliable again. OTOH it is already in Alaska and registered so that alone is worth something compared to buying/shipping/registering a Canadian truck. It is missing the steering pump but there has been a bunch of costly service done (head, clutch, exhaust). Mileage may be a concern WRT 5th gear in the tranny. If you want a 3B powered wagon it's worth a look I'd say.

A fj62 power steering pump should bolt on....

Heard back from the owner and it is probably sold. Day late and a dollar short. Well I guess the hunt is back on. Thanks for all of your replys. Since I have a thread going any cruiser guys in the anchorage area?
