the Lexus she got in the divorce was a 96 - someone in Phoenix told her she needs a timing belt - (chain) - so - she needs a good mechanic that is honest and since I am outa the picture - hope someone will help...

Thanks all - and I miss the internet and Cruisers...

just poor white trash livin on the Rez now...

I find it difficult to believe it needs a timing chain. I have only sold a couple in the last several years and they were replaced during over-hauls and were probably really OK to begin with.

Yes it sucks - but I opted for the FJ40...

and thanks Dan - that is what I thought...

What's the problem with the rig?

I thought the timing CHAIN was supposed to be changed at 300,000 miles or so.

The mechanic probably thinks the LX has a timing BELT which are usually changed at 90,000 miles.
