My dead pedal/foot rest broke a few months ago - the plastic piece snapped, like in most of the other pieces I've seen. After looking around at different options to replace it, I decided I didn't want to spend $60 on a replacement. Found a few things in my garage to put together a semi-permanent DIY fix that works for me.

These are the broken pieces. You probably have some too.

Here's the back of the pedal where the plastic broke off.

This is what I decided to do. I got 5/16 inch a dowel rod.

Cut it to size. About 3" works well.

Glue them in place and let them dry. I used Flex Glue, but whatever you have around the garage will probably work fine.

Once they've dried, screw them in place. Notice the glue from my previous attempt at a fix.

Last, fill the holes in the dead pedal/foot rest with silicone and put the dead pedal in place over the dowel rods that are screwed into the floorboard.

This DIY dead pedal repair has held up well for more than a month now. If I ever need to remove it for whatever reason, it will be easy enough to put it back in place with silicone, etc. The part that screws into the floor goes on/off like normal, so there's no permanent change to anything that wasn't broken to begin with.

That's it. Hope it works for you as well as it has worked for me.
