New Floppy Mirror Syndrome (FMS) kit now available, 10 cents plus postage.

I may however have to turn production over to Wits End due to supply chain issues:

Waiting patiently for my FMF-1 kit from @NLXTACY . Passenger side decided to explode last week. In the meantime...zip ties save the day.

I don't remember if I have to take the door panel off to wrestle the mirror wires out. Does anyone recall? I don't want to but I just remembered I do have new inner/outer window trim to install.

No just the little triangle window piece

Woohoo!! You're the man!

If you are removing the mirror and separating it from the vehicle then there is more to it. On my 95 I replaced the passenger side mirror yesterday and in order to access the connector for the mirror harness I had to remove the door panel. There is a connector that sits behind the speaker. I have attached a link to the video that helped me complete the job without breaking things. The plastic garnish (Triangle) pops off by pulling the top first and when you do this the retainer might be worn out and not reusable like it was in my case . If that happens then you need part 67499-30020. ** Joey supplied this number to me. Thank you Joey!

TIP - I recommend disconnecting the harness behind the speaker first so you are not having to hold or leave the mirror hanging against your door. If the door panel isn't coming off easy that means you missed a screw or two. Watch the you tube videos to refresh your memory where they are located.

Good luck .

...and that's why I have a Prison Shank! :D

Installed the Wits' End FMS today on drivers side. Pretty much followed the path of others. Had to do some Dremel work on the shaft so the collar would slip on nicely. I forgot to smash the tabs on the top washer and left it off. Hoping that's not a problem. The collar seemed to cover the spring pretty well. Thanks for this FMS solution. Beats buying replacement mirrors, since black not available in NOS .

I did both of mine by taking the mirror out and unscrewing the side mirror.. Unplugged the electrical from the mirror motor then drilled and installed while the post was still on the truck. Used a big C-clamp to compress the spring. Wasn’t fun, but didn’t have a vise handy to compress it otherwise. Hope that helps
@hwi1s0n and I repaired his driver's side mirror today, and left the base of the mirror attached to his truck.

We were able to compress the spring in a vice in my shop, and then use two pieces of safety wire to hold the spring compressed for installation. Got everything on and the part from @NLXTACY installed. Snipped the safety wire and pried the pieces out of the spring, and it was good to go.

Hopefully this will help someone down the line. Didn't snap any pics, regrettably.

Well my house was blighted by FMS a few weeks ago, and good @NLXTACY delivered as usual. Now based upon my one banana mechanic certification, I dove right in. And screwed up. I drilled the first set of holes way too far down the post and subsequently could not get sufficient compression on the spring to make it work. Note that I did not want to disassemble the door or the window corner triangle, so I had taken it all apart down to the post, and thus was doing the spring compression work and reassembly directly on the truck. So this morning I redrilled holes higher up the post this morning, and using a wood clamp, compressed the spring and voila! So proud of myself! Check the photo, all beautifully reassembled, but I realized I was missing one piece, FACE PALM, the f***ing mirror frame. Wow. So took it all apart, and this time used two separate clamps, and a PVC pipe connector as the shim/wadding thingy and lo and behold got it all back togehter! Stoked. Now just waiting on Outsane's mirror bits to fix the floppy glass and it will be better than new! Always a learning experience!

Just to add a bit more info for other FJ80 repair newbies like myself. Definitely mark with the part before drilling. T15 is the size for the set screws.
