While working on my daughter's camry yesterday I blew the power window fuse and ended up having to pull the dash apart to replace it after finding it's location. It reminded me of the problems I had with my 68 FJ40 when I bought it in 1974. After driving to a dead end forest service road after dark I found out the only lights that were working were the headlights, nothing worked at all in the back. So after working on the wiring I was able to get everything but the flashers to work. I finally gave up and took it to the dealer. They informed me it was a fuse in the wiring harness and they were going to have to tear the dash apart and pull the heater to replace it. Well for the cost I decided I didn't need the hazard flashers that bad. A year or so later I was cleaning out the vent in the front of the cowl. After removing the door under the louver I see this inline fuse right on top of the wiring harness. I replaced it and the flashers have been working ever since. I was left wondering did the dealer not know this easy way to replace it or were they trying to rip off a young kid:confused:. I know the fuse is there for my 68 and it may be there until 73 when it seems Toyota did an ungrade to the wiring. So if you have hazard lights that don't work in one of these old cruisers this just may be the reason why:cheers:

Yep, that's the way to get into it for sure! 10 amp fuse IIRC.

Great post. Installed front turn signals tonight and hazards wouldn't work. Saw fuse on wiring diagram but couldn't locate. Found this post and went back to the garage. Sure enough no fuse in holder. Unfortunately end of holder is broken but held a fuse in and hazards worked. Will splice a new holder in with wires long enough to access easier.

another save

You saved me some upside down under the dash work today--much appreciated!:beer::beer:

here are some pics to help out the next one

fuse not present in a '72

good to know

Cooler I read your post on that a while back and was wondering about that myself. I think you have both schematics on your site ---one shows the 8 and the other the 6

I was looking at them doing my hazards ---easier to read than my FSM with a magnifying glass:rolleyes:

I think the wiring arrangement is different too but I didnt look specifically at what was different once I found the 6 fuse schematic.
