It’s a common mod. The bracket is probably there they probably removed the gate that stoped it from moving forward. It is a nice mod. You can also do a twin stick.I asked on a 70 series specific group about what i found while looking into my 4wd problem.
If you pull the stick down in 4lo, all for tires move.

If you push the stick up while in 4lo, it moves forward roughley 2 inches. And the front disengages and you are in 2lo.

Come to find out,the interlock pin was pulled, the shift gate was removed, this mod allows a quick change from 4lo to 2lo. Really wish i knew this as i could have used this little trick a dozen other times crossing pavement while wheeling. If i knew this was the issue. I could have just pulled back on the stick and we probably would have made it to the top!
I'm getting conflicting answers. But i believe the shift gate removal explanation since mine doesn't have it and the guy seems like he knows what hes saying. But hey idk. Nothings broken and its a handy feature if you KNOW its there, other wise you think you blew a hub

Twin stick you say? Now that would be sweet! It’s a common mod. The bracket is probably there they probably removed the gate that stoped it from moving forward. It is a nice mod. You can also do a twin stick.
I'm just happy you're alright @1MOA! My wife brought up a point of we should probably have a first aid training class for stuff like this. I've never done the heimlich before and was just copying what I'd seen in media. Hate to be on the trail and one of yall need cpr, i have medical stuff for broken limbs and lacerations. But it was kinda freaky being like 'holy f he could die if i f this up' and not even being slightly sure of what i was doing
