Will the 2.4L turbo Diesel engine fit in the U.S FJ80 versions? What kind of items are needed for a diesel conversion? Please be specific. I ruled out the 1HDT out of the HDJ80-81, too costly, I understand the issue with the head on the 2.4L so please don't bring that up. I'm trying to see if I can do the conversion, and if yes, what do I need?

Motor mounts?
Transmission/drivetrain/transfer case? Is there an issue?
Electrical?
What year is best for the conversion? Assuming a 1990-1997 FJ80

Thanks for responding.

Thanks for responding.

The easiest would be if you can get the whole donor truck, since there are a ton of small parts that you'll need.
And an infinite supply of engine heads, as you'll need a new one with every tank filling.
I know that was not very constructive, specific and detailed, but you should really not do this. It is a waste of time and money to put an underpowered s***-engine into an 80.
Have you read this thread?

cheers,

Dude, you will be going NOWHERE :flipoff2:

also no adding to your thread .. but don't think your 80 will even move uphill with that engine ..

But to add something constructive to your thread ..

Mechanical 2L-T don't need anything else out of 12V to the IP ( cutout switch ) to run ...

But are you planning to keep your auto tranny .?

It was posted once before but needs to be again, this thread alone should turn you off that engine. https://forum.ih8mud.com/diesel-tec...inder-head-cross-cut-reason-cracks-fails.html

With all the other choices out there that will provide more power (to actually move a 6000lb truck) more economy and better reliability I cant imagine why that engine would be considered. I think it would be a lot of work and with unsatisfactory results.

It should be fine...

Assuming you live where its flat and have favorable tailwinds. ;)

If you have your mind made up on a Prado engine..at least try to find a 3.0L. It's only marginally "better" than the 2.4 but still better.

Seriously, the 2.4L is a dog even in the Prado, never mind in an 80 series. You can hardly give them away here in Japan.

I'm sure you know all this but I just find it curious.

I had a KZJ78 for 6 years.

I'm not going to beat you up about it but that would not be a good conversion, do a search and have a browse on the forums because there are other options for a cheap diesel conversion (I'm assuming you're in the US).

You'll definitely want to cut out the floor boards for additional foot propulsion.:p
