Hey guys,

I pulled apart my drivers side mirror in order to install the SMS kit from solvefunction. I realized that a previous owner had put a bunch of silicone/epoxy all over the bottom where the one screw is threaded into. The hole has broken into pieces and was not complete when investigating further. What are some of the fixes you guys have done to remedy this issue? I do not have the piece that is missing in the picture therefore I can’t just glue it back together.

This is common enough that I made a fix..

To replace the bottom post, I think lots of people try to overnighter the bottom screw to fix the shaky mirror then this happens.

This should help you out.

Thanks! Ordered!

Well I tried putting this piece on and it immediately broke. I was able to epoxy it to the mirror. Nice design just probably got a defective one. Looking forward to hanging ing my mirror back!

the threaded part on my drivers side mirror was not holding either and cracked. I used selleys 'knead it - plastic' to repair it and then drilled a smaller hole for the screw and its held for over 5 years now

No one else drives my Rig so I went ghetto after the Second time it broke.
I adjusted it to where I like it and siliconed it to the housing😆😜

I recently bought the mirror kit from SolveFunction as well, but I bought the kit before I tore it apart.

Turned out that my problem was similar to yours where the nub on the bottom of the body had broken off. Fortunately, I still had all the pieces, and part of the kit from SolveFunction has a U-Shaped piece designed to reinforce this area.

I used the U-Shaped piece to reinforce and epoxied all of it back to the body of the mirror. The tolerances of the parts SolveFunstion makes are tight and it's a good thing they are, as they can add support and surface area for it. I originally thought the U-Shaped piece was the fix for this until I went back to his site to review it.

Anyway, I used plenty of epoxy, then trimmed out the areas needed for clearance on the frame. I let it cure for a few hours before reinstalling. I had to drill out the epoxy a little to make it so the screw wouldn't split it all again.

I chose not to utilize the upper bracket as my hoops were still intact. Next time I will take it apart to see what the problem is before I order the parts. That way, I can order the right thing.

I like the overall design of the replacement part he offers. May just have to look at directional changes on the layering to prevent the issue shown here. Not sure if that's possible, but worth a shot.

I used the duct tape as a "saddle" to hold in the epoxy and help it shape where it needed to be.

I did the same thing in my passenger side mirror. Nice work.

Sorry to bump this old thread. I wonder if anyone has experienced this issue?
foxed the mirror a few Months back. noticed the problem came back. Once pulled apart I found out that the holes I drilled for the wits end mirror fix role due to the stud giving way from upward pressure from the spring. Any ideas?
I think I’m going to just do it the old fashioned way nuts and bolts.

Thanks for a great easy repair for the side mirrors. I have done both sides and the hooks for the mirrors were broken on my 40th Anniversary 80.

Thanks again!
