Cannot go wrong with an 80 series.

That is Mikesta's FJ80. He live pass Seattle. Cool guy. I was going to trade my Cruiser for his Sunrader, but deal never happened. I sold my Cruiser instead. Truck is straight and pretty clean. He got it from Oregon, I think. If I had the money, I would buy it

Any ideas about the occasional no start he mentions?

I would bet dinner it's the EFI Main Relay... very common on FJ80's. It's not so much that they fail, they're just finicky sometimes.

I always kept 2 in the glove box of my 91.

Symptoms are crank, no start (no fuel).

Quick diagnosis - when it's presenting symptoms, put the key in and turn it to "on" - all the dash lights should be lighting up. If the CEL doesn't light, it's the EFI Main Relay.

It's on the USDS of the engine bay, takes about 3 seconds to pop another one in. They're $15 new from the dealership, I grabbed a few out of the junk yard and never had an issue.

The FJ80 vs. FZJ80 debate has been beaten to death... with an FJ80 you'll never blow a headgasket, and never get a speeding ticket.

I manually shifted my A/T going up hills to keep speed and loved the 32's on mine. Not too much tire, but enough to do work.

It's much more of a tractor than an FZJ80. The only time I noticed lack of power was in hill climbs in a lot of snow, but the torque is great when there's a bit of traction.

Dain - are you regeared at all?

Wait a second... I think this is "Mikesta" on this forum. That youtube username looks familiar.

Maybe worth a PM on here?

If this is the one I'm thinking about, when he first got it he pressure washed under the hood. Could have effected the ignition wires or something.

It's the same guy you got the radiator for your 40 from, if I'm not mistaken.

Hey guys,

Yea, its mine.

The no starting hasn't happened for a while. Its started every time. It might have been out of gas.... dunno but hasn't happened since I added some. The interior is cloth and it could be cleaned up nice. The body is nice too.

I presurewashed the engine after I got it as I thought I was going to pull the engine for a 2FE conversion and I've learned the hard way, if you pressurewash it at the car wash, it will save hours in cleaning. It was really really dirty, dirtiest I've ever seen.

Today I went out to start it and it ran real rough, but I knew what it was due to a sucking noise under the Hood. The Air Flow hose was cracked. I had another on in the garage so I threw it on, but it too has the beginnings of cracks so it will need a new one.

Its got 257,000 miles on it so it is what it is. It starts, runs, drives and stops.

I'd take $1500 for it as is, with the rack. You would likely be able to drive it to where you need to go with some duct tape and a pair of pliers....

I drove it the other day 5 miles and it is gutless compared to the 1fz-fe supercharged rig I've been driving. Might need a tranny flush and all the PM as the guy I got it from was a doctor. He had it serviced at toyota.

Come get it! It is what it is. $1500 with a straight body and Oregon title.

I've got cash in an envelope w/ your name on it Mike.

I'll PM you to get your contact info.

I'd like to come check it out tomorrow, and most likely purchase it.

I don't mind wrenching but hoping I can pull another 25k miles out of the current engine and tranny, if I believe that's doable I'll probably buy.

Sure thing... I have 6 or 7 more you can look at too. Talk to you tomorrow. I'll hold it for u

Was great to meet you Mike, thanks for letting me drive the soopacharged 80, it was a blast!

I bought it guys. Truck is 3x cleaner than my old FZJ and appears to be a bit more mechanically sound that it was when I bought it.

Made the trip from Redmond to Puyallup 0 issues.

It needs all the PM old 80's do. Birfs are clicking, it leaks some oil, PS pump feels a bit weak. Motor appears to be rock solid to me. Some vac lines need to be reattached and cleaned up, idle can get a bit wonky but doesn't stall or buck or anything like that. Smooth decent power, was cruising at 80mph on my way home on level ground.

Power windows are slow like my old FZJ was. A/C compressor is locked up.

But, in my very short time with the truck thus far it seems very trustworthy and solid. Nothing a bit of wrenching and a few parts won't fix.

I feel like I got an insanely good deal on this truck, again thanks alot Mike.

Likewise Joe, It was nice to meet you and your family. The wonky idle might be fixed when you replace the Air flow sensor hose. The one that came with it cracked in two and the one on there is used from the pile of parts in the garage.. I noticed it had cracks.

You sure cleaned it up nice! Glad it went to a mud member
