I've been reading a lot of posts on mud around the FJ80 Fan Clutch and changing out the silicone. Choosing the right silicone seems to be one part regional location and one part fan clutch type.

On average from what I read -
Original AISIN Fan Clutch should be 10-15K Range
Blue AISIN Fan Clutch should be 20-25K
Black AISIN Fan Clutch - Unsure

However I'm not sure if these numbers would work well in Arizona, namely Phoenix. I heard that most in Phoenix are running 10K plus but I curious to see what fan clutch your running, did you modify it, and what did you modify it too.

Thanks and I hope to meet some of you at our next event...

Hey Spike long time no chat....

I currently have a original stock and brand new blue fan clutch.

I've heard the blue ones are 4k to 6k and from what I can tell that seems to be right.

I'm thinking I will keep my stock as a spare and make the blue one about 12 to 15k....

However I'd like to get a better idea of what other CSC folk are doing before I change it out.

The blue hubs need thicker oil. Mine's at 20k and could prolly go higher.

Fluid with too high a cst will wear the belts out prematurely...everything is a trade off...

The twin belts? I doubt it... MPG will suffer, that's about it.

I bought a blue hub from Murf and had it shipped to Tools. He fixed it up (not sure what cst) and mailed it to me. Worked out great.

the Amazon blue hub in our 80 has 30K fluid

the black hub in the LX has 10K

Hey All thanks for all the good information. I installed the AISIN Blue Fan Clutch (unmodified) and Water Pump today, got them on Amazon. The Blue one seemed smoother and easier to turn then my stock fan clutch. However after installing the blue one I could definitely feel better air flow through the grill. I took the TLC out for a spin about 4PM today and the AC is running better now, engine temp is about the same. I think what I am going to do is put 10K cst in my stock clutch and have it ready as a backup part and then install a SPAL 12" fan with some sort of AC controller. I have an upgraded Alternator so installing a ~13 amp fan shouldn't be an issue, I think the main question is what type of AC Fan Controller works well in AZ?

Here are the parts I bought on Amazon if anyone is interested...

When Tools build the newer blue hubs he usually mixes the silicone to be between 20,000 and 30,000. Mine is at 24,000. I am very happy with its performance. John

Maybe. I would expect a tuned fan clutch to blow more air over the belts though... :D
