Hello, first I want to thank all the people that make this forum so great!

I have an FJ80 1990 3FE with 350k.

I was on a very hot desert trip for 2 days, and all was fine. My gage was at 100 °C at times, but all was fine!.

on the way back, (after refueling) crusing at 60 mph, the engine started to hiccup. like its missing a pulse for a second. . First Hiccup and then all OK, going 60 mph for 2 minutes. After a minute, another Hiccup and then another until the frequency increased that I had to pull over to investigate.
My friends also got gas, with me so i rulled it out..

My digital temp gauge, (stuck in a bore on top of the thermostat housing) shows ~93 °C And No CEL warning at any time.

I couldn't find any vacuum leak, no air flow meter issue, or anything bad. Idle at ~700 or 750 rpm and smooth.

I removed the battery cable for a few minutes and problem went away. But after about 10 miles, the problem returned. I disconnected the battery again and this time I could get 25 miles until the problem returned. Disconnected the battery again and was able to cruise 50 miles Until the problem returns, I think it's worse going up hills, but the temperature was never as high as in the desert.

Things consider

1. I had my fuel tank soldered a week before for a cracked.

2. although no CECELa day later I was able to get code 51.

3. I am not sure i jumpered properly the TE1 and E1 , as I struggled with rapid blinking CEL( which I never seen before) for 20 minutes. Then, ONCE, I was able to get a clear 51 code. Immediately, it was followed by the rapid blinking CEL. In the past i was able to get codes many times, but I never saw this rapid blinking CEL (about 3 per second or so).
any thoughts?
should I go/mess with the 51 code?
why is the rapid blinking?

the car runs fine now...

thx for the support

battery checked ok
fusible tomorrow.
any comment on the rapid flashing CEL?

When my 3FE showed the same symptoms it was fusible links.

hope it will be it. if it looks OK, should I still replace it?
You can't tell the condition of fusible links with your eyeballs. They have a flameproof silicone jacket.
They should be replaced with every battery change IMO. They are subject to fatigue from vibration over time, and are inexpensive. They come as a set of 3.
Toyota part# 90982-08264.

mine is only about 2 years old. -5k km..
I'll replace it anyway.
thx for the support!

continue the saga, i was able to get home ~100 km with no issues. replaced the fusible link anyhow.
another trip today. 300km hwy and 50 km dirt. no issues.. almost. on hwy .up hill at ~3000rpm I get hiccups again. short .. only few and then smooth engine.
for 100km.
feels like something in the fuel system..
fuel tank looks clean
fuel screen on the fuel pump looks good.
I did get very low on fuel last trip. maybe the fuel filter clogged?
ideas are welcome

dead spot in TPS?

Clogging fuel filter like you said?

Fuel injector going bad or bad connection.

Ignition system cross fire or distributor cap rotor fouling..

Intake filter clogging..

i will replace fuel filter soon and see

the sock you mean the mash filter on the pump? I checked it and it looks clean. I am trying to find the fuel filter. hope it will be as simple as clogged filter

Fuel filter is under intake manifold. Kind of a pain to get to. Make sure you losses banjo bolts BEFORE you loosen mounting bolts.

Some say it easier removing from bottom. I find it easier to stand on a stool and lean in..
