Good day all,

This is a specific question about a combination of parts that's not very common on this forum but I figured I'd ask.

I'm 80% of the way through arranging to have an H150F manual transmission shipped up from Australia for my 1991 FJ80. Buddy has the gearbox, transfer case (which might be part-time converted, he's not sure but the 80 it came out of had manual hubs) and a bunch of boots, brackets, linkages, clutch master and slave etc. etc. to go with. Got the ocean freight and Canadian ground freight covered, just need to arrange to have it couriered down the Aussie coast to the depot. He's going to palletise it and some other parts and send them along.

I'm getting everything from the end of the crank back, including the clutch, but obviously I'd like to pick up a new clutch for it.

My question is, will a clutch kit from an FJ60 (pressure plate, disc, etc) work with a 3F attached to an H150F? I was told by a reputable parts supplier that the 3F H55F flywheel is different than the 3F H150F flywheel. I looked on Toyodiy and they're different part numbers, but the discs are the same diameter (275mm) with 10 splines and for a 27.9mm input shaft. I see the FJ60 disc has 6 small springs vs 4 on the FJ80 disc. Has anyone (particularly the Aussies maybe) tried to use an H42 or H55F clutch on an H150F equipped LC? Is pressure plate, throw etc. going to be what makes or breaks it?

FJ60 components won't work. The set-up for an H150 mated to a non-US 3F will be different.

You are going to need the following:

31230-36161 (throwout bearing)-- Comes with the lock spring. Different than FJ60. This is a hub/bearing assembly.
31204-36110 (fork) Different than a FJ60
90119-10205 (Pressure plate bolts w/washer): These are different than 60 components. FJ80 with H150F will have 10mm pressure plate bolts vs. 8mm pressure plate bolts for the H42/H55 setup. x6

31210-36350 (pressure plate)
31250-60275 (clutch disc)
90363-15004: (pilot bearing-- This is the same as the FJ60).

90913-01019: (flywheel to crankshaft bolt) x6

All of these parts above are available still from Toyota.

Now, for the flywheel: They are indeed different numbers )

13405-61012 (3F/H150)
13405-69015 (2F/H42/H55)

But the interesting aspect is that the ring gear around the flywheel is the same part number (13453-60010) between the 3F and the 2F.

You might be able to get away with using the flywheel from a 2F. But in all honesty, I have not measured to compare and I am intuiting based on part numerical cross-over and inference. I think the flywheel will be the biggest part of this project and you will have to test/do some R&D which will mean buying different parts and trying them out.

Thankfully, I’ll be getting the flywheel from the donor vehicle, along with all the bolts, washers, clutch fork, release bearing etc.

It would seem prudent to replace the clutch components (and maybe bolts and whatnot) with new while I’m in there, so I know I won’t have to touch it for a while. I can’t confirm the mileage on the trans and clutch, so I’ll have to see what it looks like when it shows up.

I’m thinking it will be a cool project. Very few people on this board with a 3FE manual in an 80 series, and the ones who’ve done it that have posted here seemed to like it. I’ve looked at the ratios and it will be basically equivalent to regearing to 4.88 if I kept the auto, which is/was my plan B if this deal fell through.

I like automatics and am not a manual purist, but I do find manual a more engaging drive and it should suit the driving I do, as well as the tractor nature of the 3FE. If not, I’m happy to go 4.88 and keep the auto.

Replace all of the components I listed above. You will thank me later for doing so. Have flywheel machined at the very minimum.

You will have to have driveshaft lengths changed as well, unless you are getting them with the package.

Also, change the transmission mount as well. The cross-member might not be a direct fit and might need to be moved or accommodated differently vs. the slush box.
 
I'll plan to do that. Driveshafts are included in the sale. I've seen a few methods for moving the crossmember up on this forum and one of the primarily UK forums. Will have to have a closer look at that when it shows up and figure the best way to do it.

In case anyone else is curious, I acquired a 13405-61012 flywheel (From a GCC 3F/H150f FJ80), compared to 13405-69015 (2F) the only difference is the 3F flywheel has less material on the engine side, so it has a bit less mass. Functionally either will work in place of each other, dowel pins, pressure plate bolts, clutch disc height, are the same

2609g (5.75lbs) difference. Pretty considerable for a flywheel.

Why are the printed numbers on the flywheels different from the part numbers?
