About to start gathering parts to convert my fj62 to manual. Going with an h41 four speed and fj60 3.73 gears.

Got some questions..

Is anyone running this combo?

Any tips before I start on this?

Also, how difficult is it to swap 3rd members?

I've read many threads on swapping manual transmissions into 62's so I'm somewhat familiar with the process and most everything that is needed.

But I want to make certain I get the right h41. I know there are long and short versions, and different output/input shafts. Since I'm going to be using my 62's split case and have the stock 3fe, I would want a h41 (with the spacer if possible) with an f/h input shaft and a course 19 spline output shaft? Is that right?

What other variations did the h41 come in that I could use? Did the earlier ones have a 16 spline output shaft? If i could not find a later one, would one of these still work with my transfer case? I don't have to have the one with the spacer, but it would probably be better.

Thanks for the help.

Do you have the 3.73 third members you need? If not, I am wanting some 4.11 thirds out of a FJ62. Let's swap... or the very least I will buy your thirds.

Let me know, I am near Atlanta, Ga.

Swapping out the thirds is not hard, just messy and awkward. I would stick with your 4.11's.

on the front., you will need to pull of the calipers, rotors, hubs and spindles, you will then need to pull your axle shafts out far enough to dis engage them from the third, You will then need to drain the 90 weight and remove the drive shaft and nuts holding the third to the housing. If it has been on there for a long time, you may need to engage a few nuts and stick a floor or bottle jack under the third to help pry it off of the housing.

The rear is cake, pull the diff cover, pull the dohicky of of the third, pull the c-clips and pull the shafts, then repeat the steps for the thrid removal from the front.

The diff's do not sound too bad then, also gives me a chance to address my leaking birfield seals.

4.11's would be fine except I will be driving on the highway a lot and need to be able to go 70mph at a reasonable rpm. With 33's, 3.7's, and the h41, I think I will be turning 2650 rpm at 70, not too much different than if I had gone with the h55f and the 4.11's.
