Hello to all, this is my first post to the forum so bear with me please. I have read through quite a few of the post and there is a lot of great information within this forum and on this site. I, like so many other have gone down the path of purring a 3FE into my 40. I have stripped the cowl harness of all the unnecessary wires such as the A/C and Power windows, and to this point have felt very confident with my progress. Then I hit a road block. I am trying to wire in the headlights, parking lights and blinkers using the 62 harness but the switches from the forty. I am struggling with this as it is not a simple plug and play. does anyone have a diagram of how to wire in the lights using the 62 harness and 40 switches, of special interest is how to wire in the light switch and the hazard switch. And yes I have looked through the FSM and other posts, if I have missed it, I apologize. But if you can assist or point me in the right direction it would be appreciated. Sorry if I have wasted anyone time with this post, but I need help.

Welcome to Mud!

I doubt anyone will have a wiring diagram that unique and specific, but you never know I guess. I would guess your best resources would be comparing the factory wiring diagrams of your year of 40 and the 62, paying close attention to the color codes. The wiring for lights and switches is not rocket science, but it's going to take painstaking attention to detail for sure, because the switches are different, and the 62 has dual headlights.

Thanks, funny everything else seemed to fall into place. Unfortunately I had a painless harness installed a few years ago and I was never happy with the way the shop installed it. This has complicated it even more as I can not use my old harness as a reference because the shop put aftermarket switches in or cut the original connectors off. I will get it figured out, just hoping for some insight as so far the only thing that is working right is the windshield wiper. Thanks again for the response.

That sounds like a job for sure; sorry I can't be of more help. Good luck with it in any event.

I am about to this same swap on the wife's 40 and also plan to use the FJ62 harness. What trans did you use, the A/T? Did you keep any/all of the emissions equipment? Aside from the wiring, were there any issues you encountered that you did not expect?? Pictures would be fun to see.

I am using a Toyota H55F tranny. I Desmogged everything. No major issues so far with the swap except the wiring. Banging my head against the wall about this.
Currently, I got the light switch figured out thanks to 1911 reminder me about the relays. Now my have a bleed over somewhere in the wiring for the headlights. If I pull a fuse to the left or right, I still get a dim light on the side I pulled the fuse. Then you have the whole blinker issue. Luckily this is not a daily driver and is a project. It is probably something simple, but I have not found it yet.
Will try and send pics later, right now it is just a bunch of wires under the dash.

What year is your FJ40? There were quite a few light-related changes over the years, for instance, the taillights and turn signals, hazard switch, blinkers, etc.

It is a 73, but it is also a Japanese RHD model, which is a little different also, not to mention that everything is on the opposite side from the 88 FJ62 harness. Plenty of challenges. Thank for any insight on this.
