FJ62 CEL Temperatyre sensor issue

I have an 88 FJ62 and I just replaced the thermostat and when I put it all back together the check engine light come on. I check the code and it indicated the temperature sensor. The thing is the dash temperature gauge its still functioning. I have tried multiple times to reset the computer, but I continue to see the CEL. Any suggestions?

the one in charge of sending the temp to the gauge is the temp sender, so your water temp sensor could be bad
