I'm gettin' ready to install a new starter on my 87 fj60. I had what looks like a short at the positive cable lug (very corroded - broke off when I tried to loosen nut. see pics) on the old starter which also fried up the plastic clip (male) for the ignition wire. I now need to replace wire and clip. I found what I think is the proper male connector online but will need to wire it. Thinking best approach is wire new clip with 4-5 inches of new wire, cut off roached clip and butt connect new clip/wire assembly to existing wire. I could try to attach new clip to existing wire but space is limited and awkward.

I've seen 12Ga as well as 14ga referenced but hoping someone can tell me proper size wire I should be using for this.

Also plan on installing an upgraded battery cable kit from @Fourrunner

Any/All help greatly appreciated.

He's probably at a crab shack wiping butter off his chin at this very moment.
