Hello,

I own a 1984 FJ60 Toyota Land Cruiser. Currently it has a 2F engine and a 4-speed transmission, but I am interested in replacing the engine with a diesel and putting in a 5-speed transmission. I also hope to coverting the truck to run on veggie fuel.

I was wondering if anyone has done this and has any suggestions regarding the entire procedure or where to purchase the engine and/or transmission.

Thank you!

Welcome to MUD! Check the stickies at the top of this forum, and try a search for "Diesel conversion" or "Engine Swap". You should also take a look at the 60 series forum.

Good luck!

Welcome to the forum. interesting username.....are you a female cruiser head? If so   we can't all be guys here.

Like said above, search is your friend. Lucky you, you came to the right spot. I promise lots of good reading in here.

use words like, "conversion", "2F to diesel", "stickboy's "fj60 to 13b-t". and just wonder thru the pages.

First thing you need to figure out is if you want it to be only a Toyota. Not a chev-ota or cum-ota...... Whiche means a Chev diesel or a cummins diesel.

Cheers,

Its a process that requires a lot of thought.
Diesel engine conversions are largely governed by a budget and what can be sourced locally or overseas
.
Other things to consider is how much power do you want?
More or less or the same power as you have now?
Toyota makes about 5-6 basic diesel engines in 4cyl and 6 cyl

By the way ,the 5sp is a good move as most toyota diesels require a change of gearbox anyway.
It also allows more flexibilty of engine choice.
This link has a list of all engines and their specifications available in Toyota 4wds and light trucks.

You thinking veggie or Biodiesel?

If running veggie oil is your goal, do your research on which injection pumps are most suitable and then look for an engine that has the most suitable injection pump.
Here is a Biodiel site that has a WVO bulletin board:
http://biodiesel.infopop.cc/eve?a=cfrm&s=447609751

You will find that older inline pumps are more durable, Many Direct Inj engines aren't suitable at all, Certain years Lucas pumps won't tolerate veggie, Stanadyne pumps are mediocre on veggie. Learn which engines have inline pumps and which ones have rotary. etc, etc.

Find out what the replacement costs on various Inj pumps are, so if you get an engine with a rotary pump, you are prepared.

Probably a 3B or 2H engine would be best suited for veggie.
