Ok i looked at a 82 fj60 today, The body has been painted a 2 tone color and , so im not sure how much bondo is in it , but it definitly a nice paint job, very minor rust on the inside of the doors, frame and under body is clean and basically rust free truck has a heavy/heavy suspension lift on it , 35" tire with centerline rims, Man a fre header, webber carb, engine totally desmoged, no a/c, manual transmission interior is flawless, aftermarket tube bumpers front and rear they dont have a winch spot or hooks . Long range fuel tank, im guessing it has gears to turn those 35's. Oh and 85k on the odometer There was a a couple things i didnt like but i guess every car cant be "perfect" but im wondering first what could be the problem. On the drivers side on the tie rod end is VERY close to the rim in fact it looks like it might be rubbing, could this be due to improper back spacing with the rim, or could it be it might just need a spacer that can be put behind the rim? also could it be that the owner didnt install a high steer kit, and its making it like that, Or is something bent? then when i was in fourth a couple times put the pedal to the floor it felt like the clutch was either slipping or the tires were spining, my guess the clutch, not a big deal and i can do that also. and it seems to be leaking oil from either the rear main or transfer case input so i guess if i had to do the clutch i can do that all at one time, Now the price, hes was asking 10, i got him down to 9 I was just wondering what you guys think. Thanks

Ed:

I'd post up and see if you can have someone on the board look at the truck with you who has alot of experience with FJ60's.

Perhaps someone in a local Toyota Landcruiser club. I'd join
up, and you would have a place to work on the rig.

If you can, post up some pics of the rig. See if the seller will
let you take it to a reliable Toyota Landcruiser mechanic
(see sticky in the message section), if you can't find a local
member of TLCA to look at it with you.

IMHO, for 9k, the rig should be perfect.

The fj is at a dealership, they bought it and only changed the oil, with 5w30 :(. but heres some pictures

no i did not run a carfax does anyone have i that can help me out?

Nice looking truck. Magnet is your friend, won't stick to bondo. Great color combination I hadn't seen before. Clutch and rear main is an easy 500 bucks. 9 would be very high here in Tx especially with a clutch issue. I think the clutch should be repaired as a matter of course in the sale, no one is going to buy it with a clutch slipping. Make em do it. You can buy rust free 60's in Tx all day long, albeit not with that mileage....carfax for sure re the mileage.

Thanks guys thats basically all the info i needed, dont buy it. I did just talk to the salesman and he said 7, now why would you keep dropping the price so much?

$9K is way too much for that truck. For $9K it better have a beer tap and a hot chick in the passener seat. Honestly though, the truck was clearly not put together by someone who knew anything, just look at the shackle angle! 90 degree shackles are a bad thing; did you notice the right quality being really really stiff? I would bet 100 bucks the ODO reading is not correct either...

I would probably pay half of that for that rig.

2x on the front shackle angle, good looking truck but 9k is steep (go figure with a dealer) If you really want it, make em fix the clutch and offer 7500.
At 9k its less steak and more sizzle.

Yea i called him back and said 7 out the door with everything. he said he had to talk to his boss They also have a good deal 395$ for 5 years unlimited milage they will replace the tires and rims when the ddamage cant be fixed. so it i pop a tire off the rim and tear it up they will replace for free. the ride was actually nice, i dunno if it nice bcause my other fj is so bad or what but is felt real nice. and for 7 i could fix the clutch , but then theres the problem with the drank link rod end touching the rim? does anyone have any clue that this is? thanks

Keep looking. Buy a rig from someone where you know or can
establish the history.

Post a wanted on the board for a 60 and I'm confident you can
find what you want. If you can spend nine big ones, you can find
a very sweet, rust free rig with no mechanical issues.

DO NOT pay $7K for that rig. At most as it sits its worth $5K. They probably paid $3K for it. Car-fax that thing. if the milage is off you can REALLY beat them over the head with it and get the price down considerably

Yea ive decided not go to with the cruiser, So im putting a WTB Out on a Landcruiser 60 or 40 series will work, Im located in michigan and will drive up to 250-300 miles one way to pick it up. My OVERALL Budget right now on the truck it 10-12k After Most of the modifications are done. If anyone knows anything around Please PM Me, OR email svtedwardo420@yahoo.com. Thanks

The backspacing on the rims you are talking about is a fairly common thing to see. My wheel weights tore up the boots on my tie rod ends and I had to replace them. You can pick up a 1/4" spacer with the appropriate lug nuts that will cure the problem, or better still, get some 1" or 1.5" spacers for all four corners and your problem is solved. The rust usually starts in the rear fenders. Pay $4500 for that rig and no more as long as the rust is not present and the carfax can add some validity to the milage claim.

. . . They also have a good deal 395$ for 5 years unlimited milage they will replace the tires and rims when the ddamage cant be fixed. so it i pop a tire off the rim and tear it up they will replace for free.

My opinion; I recommend you not buy any warranty. Those things are never a good deal. If purchased, the truck should be bought at a fair value or at a price that favors you, the buyer.

That's my $0.02

I totally agree, I want to pay as little for the truck as possible but the dealer wont go lower than 7, which is no problem , Im just impatient, but i know ill find what im looking for.

well....

wrong position on the rod to the steeringbox? rim design/backspace issue get some steelies or some mickey thompson classic locks and solve that prob. (Have them keep those street-hoopty ones and buy you the cheaper ones.)
