What would you do?
My May '71 FJ55 had an engine swap to a small block 350 by a previous owner. Recently I have been having trouble with a pressurized fuel tank, to the point of hearing the tank 'pop' while driving and fuel spraying out when removing the fuel fill cap. After inspecting many things, I think I've solved the problem with a new vented cap. (A vented cap was on the vehicle when I purchased it).
But... During my inspection, I found what looks like an attempt to eliminate the evaporative canisters mounted in the rear panels. I have the fuel tank with the four emission ports in the corners. All four ports are still connected to the two canisters. The outputs of the canisters are still plumbed to the hose and rigid tube running under the vehicle, but the two pieces of the tube are connected together with no output forward. No charcoal canister in the engine and nothing into the vacuum system.
1) I feel I have better things to do with my time than try and reconnect and make this system work again. Agree? Any reason to put this all back instead of a vented fill cap?
2) If this were your vehicle, would you leave the canisters in the rear or remove them and cap the lines?
Thanks for your input,
Jeff
