I checked out a 72' fj55 the other day. the guy wants $1200 for it and doesn't know if it runs. said it did 2 years ago when someone stole the keys, and has not run ever since. His wife wants it gone, so he would accept less, I think quite a bit. The interior is thrashed. lots of rust even for a 55. No rear window. everything else looks to be there. what is the thing worth if the engine runs, and if the engine does not run. and is anyone interested in his #? if you are i think that i could find it again.

whats the address and is it just sitting outside where i could just drive by?

Running, and you can drive it.....100.00us.

Not running..... less than 100.00us.

I don't have pics

I will try to rummage up the address and phone #. Maybe he would be willing to send some pics. kslcars.com is where I found it and it has a few pics and his #s.

When he said that there was a little rust. rockers, doors, the two front fenders have been patched, floor pan ( drivers seat belt rusted off where it attaches to the floor).

like I said, I think that he needs to get rid of it.

I am still thinking about it, but am not sure if I want to get into it.

Let me know if any of you decide to buy it. that way I will quit beating myself up about whether to buy it or not.

The part in bold scares me... if there's enough rust action to eat through the seat belt mount, then the floor is probably toast. For example, my seat belt bolts are rusty enough to not be removable without cutting, and my driver's floorboard was starting to look like swiss cheese... in this case you'll probably have Flintstone brakes. :D

The driver's floorboard is always (well almost always) the worst place for rot because of the asphalt that's laid down on the floor to deaden the noise of the exhaust that runs right underneath. This has a habit of separating from the floor, then wicking up water that takes forever to dry out, rusting out the floorboard.

When it comes to a pig, you really have to see it in person and determine how much work it's going to take to remove the rust. That's the biggie. Everything else you can work with pretty easy, but sheet metal fab is the killer, unless you're really good at it and can create compound bends.

That pig doesn't look too bad, but exterior rust is pretty easy to hide... you need to see the floorboard and joint rust to really get an idea of what you're in for. It definitely looks better than expected after your initial description. :)

Also, does "Doesn't currently run" mean that it just has no keys, or that there is something mechanical that is preventing it from running?

doesn't currently run

The doesn't currently run is he said that it ran before the keys were stolen, but he hasn't taken the time to get new keys, a little fishy. He also said that he tried to sell it before the keys were borrowed, but he had a hard time selling it when it was "running" and he had the keys. Your guess is as good as mine. How much work would it be to replace the floor pan if it only has to be patched. Oh ya the passenger side body mount has rusted out as well.
