Hello everyone, took my 55 heater box apart and I’m considering having it media blasted then powder coated. I have no experience with the powder coating process but it seems as if the flap I’m pointing at would need to be removed. I’ve rebuilt a 40 box before and believe the flaps are held on by screws. This one looks pretty permanent. I’m afraid of bending the metal to get the rod/flap out for fear of snapping the metal.

Anyone tackled this before and have any advice?

I can always try but concerned with the metal just snapping.

I think you're just asking for trouble. I bet that a nice toothbrush cleaning and gentle massage with boiled linseed oil will have it looking and working just fine.
Powder coating? Please.
Linseed oil and elbow grease.

100% agree with @Pighead That’s a nice looking heater box. Put some new foam on the flaps with some 3M spray headliner adhesive and you’ll be set.

Ok ok I’m convinced. This is a camping rig but I wanted some fancy jewelry. Linseed and back together. Shame on me. Thank you for pointing out how ridiculous that endeavor would have been..
