What booster options are there for ease of fitment on a 1969 FJ55? Can brake parts from an FJ60 retrofit for front discs? The main question I have about this is how to make the axle shafts work.

Hi All:

Do you mean that this '69 FJ55 does not have a brake booster currently? Or, you want to upgrade to a disc brake booster?

Yes, the 60 Series knuckle outer parts can be used to current your drum brakes to discs. I believe that you will have any issue with tie rod end size (60 Series are larger.)

Alan

check the thread in the 55 section 68 or 69 build up. they had a booster installed in that rig with no problem other then drilling some holes...I think.

I was wondering the same thing, as I've got an early pig without a booster.

Do you already have the 60 pieces or are you in need of them?

I got the axle swapped in and realized that the fj60 booster I have doesn't fit flush to the firewall due to a support "rib" on the firewall. Is there any other booster that can bolt up to the 60 MC? Should the rib just be cut out and make the 60 booster work? Suck it up and get the $60 adaptor from JT outfitter and hope it works?

From what I understand, here are the options:

1. go boosterless with an early 80's corvette or a S10 manual m/c.

2. find a toyota booster that'll fit a dual m/c and get an adapter--manafre or mark's offroad in burbank. Might be hard to fit with the f/2f carb.

3. Cut the rib and do #2.

If anyone has any other solutions, I'd like to hear about it. Cheers, ty

way I solved it courtesy of "Degnol" was to run the Corvette Master without booster......BUT it gave me a dual circuit that my 69 with 2F did not have and it cleared the firewall rib see "Body Transplant" thread in the 55 section HTH

Thanks guys. I think I am going to get the adaptor for the 60 booster or cut the rib and make the 60 booster work. The mechanics at spector I talked to had no solutions and said to just cut the rib out.

I put a 80 -85 mini truck booster on my 71 pig that can also fit the same years master brake cylinder to do front disk brakes. just make sure you get the check valve and the 1 inch spacer......

Hey Kyle I am pretty sure I know what you mean by spacer but what are you talking about when you say check valve? I am doing the same setup this weekend and want to know anything I might run into... thanks

I say cut part of the rib off and drill your own holes or make an adapter out of ?? I think the firewall should still be plently strong.I am looking in do doing this swap myself on my 69.As my master cyl.(stock)is leaking down inside the firewall. So the booster makes sense, since I did do the front disc swap.
Well see.

Here's my solution (cribbed from Toyota Trails last year). This is my '67 FJ45LV that had the old single circuit drum brakes. I can now use all stock Toyota disc brake components for ease of service.

This is a firewall section from a wrecked BJ40. I'm sure there are enough rusted FJ55's out there that you can salvage this firewall section from. It's not an area that had any corrosion on my '76 FJ55 when we restored it.
