Ok, to start off this is a slow build.. (poor broke metal fabricator)

project plans our:

a fj45 tube truck

2.5 rockwel steeringl axles
8.1 vortec engine
wiple supercharger
4l80e tranny
atlas 2 speed t-case
4 link front/rear suspension
18" coilovers
ride height as low as possible 6" up travel front 8" rear
the look of a short bed 45

as of now the rig has overson pinion brakes, diff protectors, 1 double ended ram, johnny joints, mrw 20" extreme duty bead locks, and a ton of tube work

sorry to say, but now is the waiting time.... funds are low rent is due and truck is just begging for attention

I heard candy apple green with a silver cage looks pretty good on a full figured 40!!! Looking good. If you need some help driving that bad boy in Moab this spring I can help. A donut and a little 2 wheel drive rear low with the front line lock on is always fun.

Candy apple green is apparently not very good on a big 40 since it is now flat black with a black widow spider on the hood

How's the Troopy coming along? Are you coming to Moab this year?

If I had cash on-hand to build a dedicated crawler, this is pretty much the way I'd go, maybe with a carbed Ferd V8 and an SM465.

Will the rockwells retain their hub brakes in addition to the diff brakes?
What are the diff rations?

A carb'd engine and a wide-ratio trans vs a supercharged big block and an auto to handle it? ummmm.

pinion brakes typically are the only brakes.
6.72:1 is it for rockwells.

OP - if you want to sell that whipple..lemme know! My tow rig wants one.

Carbed engines are easier to get going initially, the whole unit, if running, can be dropped in without issue, no sensors, no ECU; though FI could be done in "If Land" if I wanted the frustration.

I do not like autos, and have forsworn them after my last one grenaded.

This is not a competition, just saying that were I in a similar project, these would be my plans.

Though for clarity: I would not butcher a Cruiser for this, probably an 80's K5 or single-cab K1500 shortbed, something cheap to cut on, careless to wrinkle, and simple to replace.
