Evening fellow mudders,
I scoured the threads and didn't find anything similar so posting a new one for reference.
Needed a new alternator for the Troopy I'm refreshing. After many hours of searching for the right mounting style, and internal regulation, and something over 50Amps. I found it, and it's cheap. (relatively speaking)
You want to find an alternator for a 1982 Toyota Corolla. Style/flavor #14336. Remy, Pure Energy, and BBB Ind. all make them. I purchased mine for $50 plus S&H from RockAuto.
It's slightly larger than the OEM, so my air box interferes a bit, but with some persuasion and finagling I made it fit. Pics below showing OEM and new.
If you go back a year or two, you'll find the externally regulated versions, again for way less $$ than buying them at the Other place.
Gotta love my FJ. It took me longer to swap out the pulley, than it was to replace the whole alternator.
Cheers
