I'm helping a friend rebuild a 65' FJ45. The truck has been in his family since it was new. The oral history of the truck is that it only has 20k miles on it (odometer is broken). After disassmebling the truck I believe it. The motor will turn over by hand. He is not keeping the drive train and axles. It also has a Ramsey PTO winch that is old, but not original I'm sure. Don't know if the winch works or not. Any thoughts on what their value might be or should we just sell them for scrap?

Thanks,

Their value? Imagine the difference in value between a '69 gt350 with the original engine and one with a 454 installed. That is this engine's value.

The day is not far off when a bone stock FJ45 will be mentioned in the same breath as a GTO, gt350 or AMX.

I'm not a purist by any means. That said, IF I had a 45 or really any classic ride that had made its way through the family and was all original like what this thread and the other ( I'm guessing your friend's build thread) portray I would restore it and keep it as is and watch it raise in value as I passed it on to my children. 40s and 45s are hard enough to find in decent shape let alone all original.

Then I would find a "Frankenstein" 40/45 like what I'm working on to do a resto-mod or trail toy.
for what its worth

Thanks

Thanks for the input guys. But the decision is not mine. I'm just trying to keep good, hard to find parts from going to the crusher (which is where they were headed).

I'll take that carburetor...

We've got that Ramsey PTO winch on our '65 FJ45. Not stock but probably a dealer option. Period correct and adds to the truck. Not junk.

I responded in the owners thread too.

Please, for the love of god, try to convince him to put it back in. Or at least a 2f which would still be kinda cool. He is throwing (20 years from now) $100K down the drain.

edit: it will likely cost him more money to get the truck where he wants it than just replacing seals and putting that engine back in. It will still be super fun to drive.

The plan

Well he isn't leaving the F drive train in it. He is purchasing an 86' FJ60 and we will transplant the drive train and rear axle into it. Probably going to use a disk brake 40 axle up front with mini truck PS. He wants to run 33's so we will lift it 4". The body will remain stock. His grandfather put some 15 x 8 plain steel wheels that are black on it. He likes them so they will remain. The heater core has leaked and rusted the box pretty badly. So An AC/heating unit is being considered at this time. That's the plan for now. But it is still pretty fluid at this point.

don't suppose he has a set of dualmatics on the front end;)

Ige.. Ping me I have one i'll give you if you pay shipping. You owe me a beer next time we wheel together if that's acceptable payment.

If this was closer I would take the whole drive train to put in my 65 FJ45 which had a 2F when I bought it. Mine is either going back to stock with the correct F135 or going 3FE. Leaning towards 3FE since I have one. All my F engine are either to old or to new.
