My buddy bought a 1979 fj45 last year off eBay paid good money for it looked in great shape . Had it for a wk and head gasket goes so sends the head up to James at cruisersparts now my buddy's mechanic can't get compression he doesn't know what to do and he is not a diesel mechanic . Any help would be great thank you . Jason

More info would be helpful. I know the 79 HJ45 I had had a "H" engine in it. I lot of people replaced it with a 2H. What work was done to the head? Was it just decked or did it have a valve job too? The timing could be tricky as well. Without knowing much its hard to help.

Yes head was decked no motor work was done heads were just sent out to James . I'll try and get more info . I believe it's the H engine he sent me a text last night

And he had compression before it was taken part for head work
 
Er, I should have said Chris lives in Western MA, and has had experience with a Toyota diesel. I think he did most of the work on his truck himself.
 
Kinas got diesel parts. I'm headed there in 2 weeks with an empty Troopy on the return

Rufus the dufus has a lot of experience with the the H engine. I have several 3B's and 2H's and can probably help with tech.

What did Cruiserparts do to the head that any local machine shop couldn't do?

What head gasket was used?

Did all cylinders lose compression? How was he testing compression? What are the compression numbers in each cylinder?

He has some heater parts for me I'm buying but he has not got back to me on a price but if he does before you leavecould you might ship them I'll pick them up from you and it would be greatly appreciate it

Not sure what they did to the head I'm assuming they shaved it down and my buddy was driving before the head went cruiserparts made him pay upfront 2k for the job and had the head the whole summer here nor there another story. It like I told him the truck was running when you dropped it off to your mechanic you should not be getting back a nOn running vehicle if he. Older do the job should of never taken it on .
