i have a73 fj45 with a 350 chev and can get a 60 series 5 speed box are they a straight swap or am i betta goin for a turbo 350 auto conversion
 
Search. The diesel tech section has a bit on this too.

Bolting the H55f in place of the H41/42 is pretty straightforward, but there are a few mods needed towards the back of the transmission/T-case.

  • Parking brake on the T-case might hit the frame crossmember
  • Shift levers are in a different spot
  • Transmission top cover is taller on the 5 speed
  • 5 speed can only use a split case T-case, so you've got to find one of those (easy)
  • driveshafts have to be lengthened/shortened to adjust for the longet 5 speed

Those are the main issues off the top of my head. I think you'd be better off leaving the 4 speed in over putting a GM automatic transmission in, and even better with the 5 speed. I hate automatic transmissions and GM stuff though.
