I have a beautiful FJ43 hard top and rear door that I wish fit on my 40 (I knew it wouldn't when I got it, but it was too good of a deal to pass up). I'm thinking about selling or trading to free up funds for my 78 40, but have no idea what it's actually worth. I realize that they're rare but can't find any for sale out there for comparison. I hope you guys can help me with a value. From what I'm "guessing" from info I had and pictures I came across, this one came from Japan and part of a restoration in Florida. I included 2 of those found pics to illustrate the installed top from front and rear. It still looks the same.

It's in great shape. The only potential flaw I see is what looks like some filler cracking under the side panels at the front corners. I'm not sure if that's normal or of any concern since it's not visible when installed, but included a pic.

Please note that 2 of my New Year's resolutions are to get my personal finances in order and to focus on my Cruisers...which may be 2 contradicting resolutions. That means I want to get as much as I can while hopefully getting it in the hands of a satisfied Mudder.

I have mostly lurked on Mud, and need to learn a lot from this group...but more of that to come.

First, here are a few pics. Let me know what you guys think...and tell me if I'm posting in the wrong place!

$3k at least, super rare but so is the buyer for that. Maybe call the FJ Company as they seem to do alot of 43's

Thanks for the suggestion. that's not a bad idea

Most likely an aftermarket top, Toyota did not make any FJ43's with hardtop from the factory. As far as I know they were all FST.

Someone was looking for a used 43 top on the forum in the fall of 2017. It might be worth a search.

Probably gonna need that swing out rear door as well. Or do you think amby doors would be compatible? I think there were two different hardtop makers in South America.

You'd definitely need the door. There won't be hinges on both sides of the top. It's a fiberglass top so adding hinges and having them properly reinforced would be tricky.

That rear door is coolio..

Would you just sell the rear door?

I'd trade you a 40 top with a hatch if you were closer.

As for valve... my 40 roof and hatch cost me a total of $350. They usually cost more like $1000. It'd likely cost another $1000 to stretch it out the 12" or so.

Since it's not stock it's worth only worth what a buyer is willing to pay... rare is a relative thing.

Thanks! That's a helpful way to think about it.

I don't want to separate it unless a buyer doesn't want it for some odd reason. I'd prefer to keep it whole for someone.

Thanks for the heads up. It can't hurt to see if there's still interest there.

Another option I've long debated... spring flip to stretch wheelbase (possibly 60 series leafs), extend tail end of frame, stretch tub, and enjoy the extra space. It's especially tempting when I need to rebuild the 1/4s and have donor 1/4s. The frame extension wouldn't even be load bearing :D

Wish I had seen this 8 months ago...I am stretching my 40 now, would have saved me a bunch of work!
