who is better, axles the fj40 or rj70
trasfer and transmission idem...

well this is all...

So you are thinking of trading your FJ40 for a 70 series with a 22R and 5 speed? Well, I didn't know that the 70 came with a 22R... Is it stock?

The 22R with a 5 speed is a great combination. You can't go wrong with that. You'll get a bit better gas mileage, but you won't have as much power....

I'm going to move this post to the 70 section, you will probably get some good answers there.

Does it look like this?

Hi Cristian. The 40 axles, gearbox and t/case are stronger but the RJ70 doesn't have problems.
They use Hilux running gear.
The 70 would be more comfortable and use less fuel

I dont know about 35s,I would think 33s would be the maximum without rub and still have some power left .

!Hola Christian!

You can use 35 inch tires with the RJ70, but you will want to re-gear the axles.

The guys in the "mini-truck" (aka HiLux) section should be able to offer suggestions as tothe best axle gear ratio to use with the 22R engine and 35 inch tires.

Good luck with your rig(s)! :D

!Adios!

The LJ/RJ series have the hilux size diffs as mentioned above, but the CV's, which will be the weak point if running big tyres, are the same as the 40 (&60, & early 70) series :)

The gearbox isn't the strongest Toyota ever made but is perfectly OK behind a 2.4 motor. Transfer case is std Landcruiser.

RJ70 v/s FJ70 ??? fj is heavy duty and rj light duty no???? i have other option and this is a fj70 `90 with 3f std to ...

Yep, you got it. The FJ70 is just the updated version of your 40 series really :) - a little more power & tougher for towing & load carrying than the RJ, but not as nice to drive on the road.

Cheers
Clint

I think the 90 fj70 would be a closer truck to your fj40. A better upgrade from the 40. The RJ is nice looking too.

If you spend most of your time in the city and a little on the trails, the rj might be great.
