Hello

I wanted some quick advice regarding the instrument cluster for a FJ40.

I am rebuilding one, but I have noticed that the numbers 0-80 as well as the E and F, etc of the gauges have faded away.

I was wondering:

  • How where these marking made at factory?
  • Is there a way to buy just the plates with the markings?
  • Is there a way to redo the markings?
  • Are there any alternatives?
Thank you all for the wonderful help!

Try and locate a sign shop or graphics studio that can make them on a plotter out of adhesive backed vinyl like a 3M Scotchlite or Controltac. Coose a font for the lettering, (fuel, oil, etc.) it's going to be real close to a Helvetica Medium, and maybe supply a photo or enlarged Specter Off Road catalog drawing they can scan of the speedo numbers and then upload for you. Spray paint over the old letters and lay on the new ones. Have them cut extra sets you can practice with, it ain't easy! While you're at it mask off and paint the five needles with day glo orange, it makes all the difference. If there's nothing local you can scan a graphic and email it to a studio in a cdi or jpeg format, and they may be able to do it long distance for you. Good luck with it.

Easier to find a good one off eBay. ;)

I have one for sale for $50.00. PM me if you're interested.

Hi

I will see and try to do the plotter with adhesive.

I've scan the plate and using Photoshop, I've created a good label.

I will try it out and post.

Thank you

I just posted the exact same thread and recieved a link to a company that may be able to do all the work for you (do a search using my name or something and you should be able to find it for it was only a couple days ago) My situation is exactly like yours and I wish for the exact same thing so if you have any luck please PM me and maybe you can get a break by having more than one set made!!!!
