My body shop has my 40 put mostly together, however the hood hinges are causing the hood to bend downwards. My bodyman said he had to tighten them or they would be very loose. He said there was no support under them which he thought was unusual. I am thinking...just loosen them up so the bend is out and use locktight?

Well thats not right. Can you post a picture? Something isn't lining up clearly. I suppose several things could be off
but even then I don't understand how this could happen. There's so much play in all the front that you should be able to easily
move everything up or down some.

1) Check the hinges themselves haven't been flexed
2) Are the body mounts in the front higher than normal
3) if the ribs of the fenders were removed for work...check they got welded back to same position

There is really only 3 points where the front attaches to the frame (the two ribs of the fender and the front bib hinge). There is tons of play in the fender ribs for aligning things up and down and very little to no play in the front hinge to frame...but the bib itself has some play in attachment to the fenders.
Is everything lining up in regard to the fender attach to tub?
