How difficult is to install an FJ40 1982 H41 gearbox into an FJ60 1984?
I have noted the position of the shifter is different, in one it is forward, and in the other is in the aft.

It is as simple as changing the top of the gearboxes?

Thx

For 1984+ FJ60's you have the added issue of the spacer on the back of your gearbox. That is to say, the FJ60 gearbox has a spacer (and is correspondingly longer) that was used to allow Toyota to put 5-speeds in non-USA trucks while maintaining identical driveline lengths. So, inorder to put an FJ40 or earlier FJ60 4-speed box in your truck, you'll either need to mod your driveshafts or find earlier FJ60 shafts.

I have crawled underneath the truck and the spacer is not there.
I guess you mean the spacer where the 5fth gear goes, also common on all 3f configurations.

What's your opinion on the gearshifter? Are they compatible?

The later 40 trannies and 60 trannies are the same and the shifter top shouldn't be a problem to switch. The bodies are identical and the top plates were fitted depending on the truck it was destined for.

Thx for the help

Tomorrow I am going to make the swap, don't have much time to repair the one on the 60, so I will hace to put a 40 trannie that lies on the floor.

Will make comments of the process later to comment on any inconvenient found

See ya
