Fj40 gaskets. Have new aftermarket gaskets for doors, front fenders, running boards, tailgate, spare tire carrier, ambulance doors, hinge mount mirrors and hood. Made from 1/16 rubber.

Fj40 gaskets. Have new aftermarket gaskets for doors, front fenders, running boards, tailgate, spare tire carrier, ambulance doors, hinge mount mirrors and hood. Made from 1/16 rubber.

Mounting stuff with thick rubber gaskets may be good (initially) for protecting paint surfaces but the rubber will usually tend to "squeeze out" from the joint over time with the protruding portion becoming perished/cracked and ugly.

Another negative effect of the use of "rubber gaskets" for this purpose is that they promote "bodywork distortion" as the bolts/screws are tightened.

Which is why using a "thinner harder/stiffer more-plastic-like material" maybe better ....

It may also be better to use some sort of "mastic" ....or even to use no gasket at all (which is what Toyota did beneath door hinges, around the fenders/guards, for the sidesteps etc).
