Hi all, hope you can help...
We have what we think is an FJ25 here in the UK which has been stood (under a few layers of canvas) in the yard for many years. The original owner always maintained that it was very rare...is this the case?
Also, the importation documents suggest that it was built in 1962 but as far as I can work out, Toyota stopped making them in 1959/60. The chassis number is 20053 if that helps.
Any comments or assistance welcome...
Thanks:eek:

FJ25's are somewhat rare. Does it have a bezel? If it does, then its not an FJ25. But a picture is worth a thousand words. The VIN should be stamped on the passenger frame horn and would start with a number (year or production) followed by -FJ25XXXXX. If it doesnt have this then its not a 25. Look through the numerous pictures in this section and see if what you have looks like a 25. Definitely get a picture and post it up.

Welcome!

Mike

It would be extremely rare in the UK as I don't believe the FJ25 was ever imported there. ;) Pictures would be the best and easiest way to identify it.

Try to get the whole frame number or number from the VIN plate as Foxfab said. I'd wager if it is a 25 it would be 0FJ25 20053 or 9FJ25 20053 since that number would be a late '59 or early '60. :D

cant be to rare 2 threads got started today by 2 different people saying they have 25s in the uk

As I posted over there, the 1962 was probably the year it was titled or imported. Archie's for example is titled a 1962 (the year it was purchased overseas and imported by a serviceman) and it really is a 1959 production. :)

Thats what you get when we all try and get info without confering
that is my brother in law -sorry :whoops:
No problem, bolds. We were just worried that you might have a multiple personality disorder like the rest of us FJ25 owners. :D

Anyway, once again welcome to the FJ25 forum!!

By all accounts from both you and your bro-in-law, it sure sounds like you guys might have a 1962 FJ25. Did you get a chance to see if the physical characteristics of a 25 that we mentioned matched what you got (bezel-less, round rear wheel opneings, 4-speed tranny, etc.)??

If that is what you have, you do indeed got yourself a rarebird, especially in the UK!!

So, hang out here as much as you can, catch up on some of the previous posts in this forum, ask a million questions, and try to post any pictures that you can. We love seeing pics of old Land Cruisers, especially FJ25s. (If you're having problems posting pics as a new member, you can email them directly to me and I'll post them up for you for the time being: LandCruiserSteve@aol.com )

Eager to hear more about the history of your truck. :bounce:

Oi, Bolds, what are you doing here????
Sorry for the confusion everyone, guess we will have to work out a rota.....

Nice to have you both here! Now get that storage locker cleaned out and take some pictures! ;)

We seem to find something new with every 25 that turns up, so I'm looking forward to it. :D

Alright, I gave you guys two months to get that 25 cleaned out and take some pictures. I'm not even that slow! :D

Steve, et al, I'm new here. I live in El Salvador and have found what I'm about 99% sure is an FJ25, which I intend to try to acquire. (It's the only one I've ever seen face-to-face in my life, although it seems that there are lots of old FJ40's everywhere around here.) Sorry to ask silly questions, but: (a) what do you mean by the FJ25 not having "bezels"; and, (b) were the FJ25's electrial sysytems originally 6-Volt or 12-Volt? What's the correct tire size, and where are they available now?

This, is an FJ25:

See, there is no "bezel" around the head lights like an FJ40.

Electricals were 12V in the USA models but 6V was available elsewhere.

:D Steve, et al? :D

Easiest thing to do is post a picture, we'll do our best to tell you what you have.

Check out all the threads and pictures in this section Some other easy things to spot one are the round rear wheel openings, large gas cap and opening with three ears, not two.

6 Volt was standard up until 1958 or so, and since that's the first year in the US Mike is right. ( I've posted the exact date somewhere here.)

Tires originally 600-16, you can get military tires like Mike's but you probably have a better selection of 16" tires in El Salvador.

Other things to look for: Original transmission is a four speed with non synchro first and second. Transfer case is a single speed in-out of four wheel drive.

Frame number should tell the whole story, it's located on the right front frame horn. First digit is the year of manufacture. Example a 1959 FJ25 would be:

9FJ25xxxxx

Let us know what you've found!

ok ok, I've been busy!

You've probably forgotten me by now, but I'm back!
It's a long story, but we have finally dragged the
Land Cruiser out of its grave and emptied all the crap out of it. Get this though - pumped the tyres up, fitted a new battery, cleaned the points, poured some octane improver down the carb and after about 3 minuted cranking it fired - and ran beautifully. Stood on the clutch a few times until it freed off, then drove it up & down the yard and round the field! The brakes are lousy and there are some nasty grinding noises from the transmission (maybe thats why it was originally laid up) but other than that, It seems pretty healthy. (Oh, one of the tyres exploded after about 20 minutes - scared the **** out of me)
So now the only question is - how the hell do I add a picture that doesnt turn into a box with a red x in it when I try to post?

I forgot how many pictures you can post up without a silver star You can host them somewhere and link them, or send them to me 1960fj25@sbcglobal.net and I'll post them for you.

:D So that's what a 25 looks like when it's pulled out of a time capsule.............Looks very original, what's your plans?:D
