I think I’m going with 35” pizza cutters on my BJ74, I’m pretty excited about it. Been eyeballing 17” FJ Cruiser steelies for quite a while.

Anyone have a set installed on their 70/71/73/74? How do they fit? Spacers required?

You will need spacers with FJ cruiser 17” steelies.

I did run 17” hilux steelies without spacers on the PZJ70 I had but those are hard to come by.

Those look great, that's exactly what I want.! Yeah I'm unsure about the fitment of the FJ Cruiser rims. Any idea of the backspacing on those Hilux rims? Hoping someone has run the FJ Cruiser rims on one of these so I can figure out if this is the way to go or if I should just grab up some 17x8 aftermarket steelies.

The hilux steelies are at 4" or perhaps slightly less as it seems when I physically measure them. I love those wheels but I am plagued with the flares so they don't look right. Looked really good on the flare-less PZJ70.

If memory serves me right, I think the FJ steelies are closer to 5"...maybe around 4.8"?

Do you still have them?

I don't want to run a crazy spacer, I'm guessing 1-1.25" would do it? I've really been hoping someone has done it. The rims are plentiful, cheap and look great.

I sold them after I realized they wouldn't really work for my 77 unless I get spacers (only because of the flares), but I do still have them in possession if you need specific measurements. Just haven't been able to get them to the next owner yet.

Here’s my 74 on FJ Steelies I’m actually gonna be changing my set up if you’re near San Diego. I’m going to probably change to a 35x12.5r15

Spacers are 100% required. I think mine are 1.25 or 1.5. I was debating sticking with these and going with Kenda RT’s in 35x10.5r17 or Cooper AT3xlt in a 315/70/17 but I’m not sure how I feel about Kenda tires and also the coopers on a 17x7.5. I know it’s not that big of a deal but I’d prefer to have something 8 inches wide. That’s kind of why I’m leaning towards getting a 15x8 and mounting 35’s on that. Just running into the dilemma of lack of 35x12.5r15 options.

I’m in LA, perhaps we could work something out. I’ve got 15x8s with new 33” Falkens LTs. They’re heavy but they ride great, got such a good deal I couldn’t pass them up. Would your spacers go with them? My current rims are 3.5” BS and are perfect for a 35x12.50. The wheels and tires are only a couple thousand miles old and have never seen the dirt.

I love my 15s and don’t really want to get rid of them but like you said, choices are limited. I really want to go for a narrow tire for fuel economy and to relieve stress on front components, trying to go for as simple and bombproof as possible.

A 35x10.50 will work great on a 7.5” rim, that’s my plan. I am thinking a 275/80/17 MT/R. I’m a little hesitant to go with an off brand tire just because I’ve shredded a lot of tires. Then again years ago I went with some Dayton Timberlands on my FJ40 and they were some of my favorite tires, so who knows maybe the Kendras are worth a shot.

If I could find a decent radial that would do well on a daily driver I’d run a 35x10.50r15, but my options are limited to a Super Swamper SSR which would only give me like, 15000 miles, and a Greenball mudder, but they’re an off brand and only 2 ply.

I was on my way home from Baja in my built 3rd gen 4Runner a couple years ago and pulled off in San Diego for coffee. Saw your truck drive by! Nice rig.

Well incase anyone wants to know what 35x10.50s look like on FJ Cruiser steelies, here it is! I initially installed it with some half wasted G2 1.25" wheel spacers (pictured here) in front while I waited for my new spacers, final installation uses Spidertrax 1.5"

No rubbing at 2.5" of lift! Steers and drives better than ever.

Nice we’re on the exact same setup! I’m painting my wheels grey atm. I also discovered that Mickey Thompson makes a 255/85/17 At.

These are my next tires if I can find some 17's I like.
