I've seen a lot of threads discussing the sub tank / altimeter display that the 80 got in other countries, but I'm wondering if anyone has ever tried to retrofit the unit from the FJ Cruiser:

I thought it would fit pretty nicely on top of our square dashboard - right above the center vent and clock.

I figure the compass and inclimeter are totally independent units, but you would have to install a temp sensor and pull power from somewhere for the center unit. Or take it one step further and wire the temp gauge to your coolant temp to be extra paranoid all the time!

i got a tablet mount in my rig and use an app for that :D

You COULD make an enclosure for the setup to make it look more like an 80-Series part or a decent add-on instead of using the FJC housing.
I'm not sure I agree that there re too many plastic parts in an FJC over an 80-Series. Its really about the same, just the type of plastic and the patina are different. If anything, the "modular" styling of the FJC is easier to customize if one were inclined to do so.

From my background, I prefer things to be precise over just looking cool. The inclinometer is just a weighted floating ball, the compass is slow to respond, and the temp gauge is just tied to a thermistor mounted near the radiator, so it isn't really accurate as well. I like the idea of wiring up other gauges and mounting them in a similar fashion though.

If anything I would pull the inclination and temp gauges out, then maybe surface mount them someplace? IDK.... I just use a tablet also. Plus, my ass can tell me when I’m “leaning too far”!

I've never seen that in a 4runner
