I have had my 89 cruiser for 3 years. Thought about selling it, but the no car payment is too pleasing, even though you can't pass a gas station. I've never been one to mess with add-ons past a stereo. I would like to put a couple bucks into it, but would like the knowledge of more season owners.

The List:

1. K & N air filter
2. performance muffler
3. Bucket seats with arm rest?
4. 3rd row seat.
5. Air intake.

Any information that can be give would be greatly appreciated.

1. You can probably pick one up cheap from a mudder who bought one and has since pulled it for an OEM style, hint, hint.
2. Exhaust can help. When my crapped out stock muffler was replaced, it opened up a lot more top end power.
3. Don't know where you'll get some with arm rests, but would be nice. I have vinyl seats that are sold by (drop shipped for) Iron Pig Off Road. I like them a lot.
4. :meh:
5. Stock is in a decent position, what are you thinking of, a snorkel? I'm planning to do a better cold air intake on mine, but it's a rust bucket and I don't mind cutting sheet metal to accommodate.

Welcome to MUD. Instead of the new seats you might want to think about a tuffy center console. This will be taller so you can use it as an arm rest, plus you get lots of storage inside, and the ability to have cup holders front and rear. It's a pretty easy mod for the FJ60, I'm not sure if it's more difficult for the fj62, but do a search and you'll find out.

If you do a Tuffy, the 8" will fit fine. You won't be able to full on grab the ebrake handle, but you will adjust and pull it just fine over time. You can line up the front center hole to use the same bolt as the heater (if you keep it), and drill two for the rear that use the captured nuts the original console screws use. Heck you could drill two in the front and use those as well I think? I ditched my heater (and mistakenly bought a 6" stereo console) so I have to weld a couple extensions to the step bracket that came with the Tuffy to get to the orignal two rear captured nuts the heater uses. If you keep the heater, you'll have to mount the switch somewhere and deal with bending or re-fabbing the hot/cool control.. it might work to just make a hole in the bottom of the Tuffy for it.. didn't look at it very closely.

Other cheaper/easy addons- dome light LEDs, this sweet dual 12V socket/ dual USB charger (Amazon.com: Multi-Use Car Charger with Dual USB Ports: Cell Phones & Service), a fat patch of the soft part of velcro for your keys banging on the steering column. Firestick makes a sweet FM/CB antenna tunable combiner box (input is CB antenna, outs are FM and CB).

I like my map light- the red LED is great for night use. They come in a variety of setups, but here is what I got- Littlite L-5/18 LED 18" LED Automotive-Mount Gooseneck Lampset, Side-Exit Gooseneck Lays Flat for Easy Storage at Performance Audio

Then there are a whole slew of not cheap/easy addons, in order of my preference:

OME HD Suspension
1HZ(and turbo)/H55 addon
4x4Labs rear bumper/sliders
rear cargo area Aussie (OEM) sliding windows
Hannibal rack, tent, awning
rear seat/cargo area sleeping platform/storage
front bullbar, warn winch
wagongear.com tailgate and rear fender panels

and hopefully soon to be liking the 40 gallon fuel tank addon and Dometic freezer/fridge addon, and the 2nd stereo upgrade addon :D
