i have an 86 fj60, and it was running fine a few weekes ago.
about 176000 mile on it.
i put about 500 miles on it. ran great. then last week, it started
running rough, as if it wasn't getting fuel or air. it will start up. but doesn't
want to stay running. if you floor it, you can get the rpms up high
(only after a second or two) but it will not stay running...

is this this typical of egr valve failure? i work on the truck myself.
but the vacuum system is a little out of my league.

is there a simple way to trouble shoot??

thanks much.

I am no expert but sounds fuel related. Maybe a back fuel pump. Have you replaced the fuel filter lately?

Zoli you could check the fuel cut solenoid.
If the wire has come off or the solenoid is kaput, they will run at high rpm but will not idle.
The wire plugs into the back of the carb.
If its working ok it should make an audible click when the ignition is switched on/off.

Also check the fuel window on the carb .It should be half full always.

I'm not trying to steal your thread, but your problem sounds alot like mine.

Is the fuel filter located inside the tank or along the line? I haven't purchased the chassis manual yet.

No S#!T!!! Thanks! I'll try that!! Zoli, my idea is that the fuel filter might be clogged, the fuel pump might be faulty, or there might be a cracked intake manifold. I've read about that on some cruisers. It's been suggested that that is what is wrong with mine, but I'm exhausting every other option first. Good Luck!
