Looks like it could functionally be right here. There might have been variations over the years. I'm putting my bet on this. Couldn't think of many other places this might be. Close match but not perfect in engine bay on charcoal canister assembly. But not likely a match .

Your chassis looks amazing! Great job !
thanks for bracket location tip—it could be a possibility I’ll have to check in the am.

The stereo:
I do not have a original nor do I want to pay $1400 for one .
I think that the run of the mil Sony/kenwood black-cd decks look like crap.

I looked and looked —and found this:
Panasonic —it’s designed to use in semi trucks —it’s grey -about like the carpet-lights up green like the dash —no cd ( no one uses anymore—and too modern for 1980’s) —has Bluetooth so I can stream music from my phone —
A great solution !
I ordered the mic so you can do hands free phone call
And you have to order the universal wiring harness separately—stereo does not come with wire harness

I deleted the door speakers and moved them to kick panel to make them a little bit more inconspicuous

I have a mid 80's Blaupunkt that i got out of an old Saab and I'm saving it for future use. Saab used the Blaupunkt am/fm push button radios as a factory option in late 70's and early 80's. Its a good option to use to get the period correct look without as much of the cost.

Mine looks like this one...though it doesn't say Volkswagen on the face plate :)

I’ve used this kenwood Bluetooth receiver in other classic car projects—it works great —will allow you to have your old school dummy deck and you can stream from your phone

Man, that truck is B. U. TI. FUL! The chassis work is simply incredible. I have two 3F4 red 6xs (one a 60 and the other a 62), and I'm usually not a big fan of red; however, on a 60 series, I have a different opinion. I've come to believe think it's actually the best looking color on them!

Thanks again for the carpet mention. Your truck is spectacular!

I so remember those. I had them in my cars back in the day! 👍

By the way, on that bracket: I don't know if you were under the dash area much at all, but there's a curved support bracket under the corners of the dash. Seems like they even have a molded plastic trim piece that attaches to them. Prolly just a WAG, but that's the only piece that comes to mind when I see that curved bracket.
