Whenever I make a sharp low speed turn the truck bucks back and forth with loud banging drivetrain noises.

I'm sure I'm not the first with this problem. I have a 350 motor, H55 trans and a rear lockrite.

Thanks

sounds like your lock rite is just unloading, not personally familiar with the lock rite but sounds like its getting more worn out and making more noise, didn't it make noise before, just less severe? I would definitely pull cover off and have a look, any idea how old the locker is? does this happen when your holding the clutch in on turns?

You haz locker. You make noise.

Three ways to fix it. Take transmission out of gear when turning corner, remove locker and replace with selectable, or remove locker altogether.

It always made noise. The locker was out during the engine swap and was rebuilt. I usually push the clutch in when making a tight turn.

I appreciated your responses.

Sounds like the locker.

Even when I push the clutch in on mine it will sometimes bind. The only way to stop it I have found is to pull the transmission out of gear.

Front hubs engaged?

Did someone install a front locker and engage 4wd when you weren't looking?

I didn't have this issue with my auto hj61 it was smooth with the lockrite in there, but my FJ40 was a big pain. I think wheelbase had a big part of that. I just learned to roll corners in nuetral with the clutch in.

More likely the automatic transmission played a large part in smoothing things out.

My auto made the lockright more apparent, Hard downshifts were exciting at 70 mph

I agree. It was an a440 that was in great shape. Smoothed it out for sure. Diesel didn't hurt either with good torque and shaking maybe that's what made me not notice the locker.

70MPH and downshift in a cruiser you must be nuts! JK what set up do you have?

5.0 mustang motor and AOD automatic tranny (shifting out of overdrive)

It's a bit jerky.. MUCH nicer with an ARB.

Low speed turns with the locker either went "click, click, click" or one tire squealed. It was smooth either way. Only bucking I get is from too much traction turning with the front end locked in.

CHEATING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I rock a stock 1.5 F motor with 3 speed manual and manual steering.

iF you are noticing more noise than you are used to, check inflation of your rear tires. If they are unequally inflated, that can make make the locker bind up more often.

Thanks for the advice. My tires pressure are good and i think the extra power from the V8 and the less than sensitive throttle control makes the problem worse.

Does it "buck and bang" through the entire curve? Or just once?

Coasting through a turn the locker should just ratchet. There shouldn't be any bucking.
