Hi im looking to put original size tires back on my 1968 fj 40 looks like the size is 7.60-15 anyone have any suggestions on what type to use thank!

seriously, close enough and cheaper

Amazon product ASIN B004QL66XO

I bought a 40new in 78. The tire that came with it from Toyota was an H78-15. That would be most closely matched to a
a 225/70 15. You can still get a number of tires that size from Cooper, Yokahama, and General but the Gooyear 235 is a better deal.
Also, as you go smaller the load rating drops. the difference in height between the 220/70 and 235/75 is 1". The truck only sits 1/2"
higher. The section width is only 3/8" wider on the 235 vs the 220
The load difference on the 220 vs 235 (100 vs 105 ) is generally about 300lbs per tire on modern radials

I ran that pattern for a while on a 1952 Dodge M-37 (7.5-16 ). Not really a performance tire for the road. They're bias ply so they start
out a bit lumpy in the cold. Off road they're durable and decent off road traction. No noisier than other aggressive muds like the old
Ground Hawgs or Monster Mudders. Later we built 20s for the truck and later ran 1100-20s

I’ve always believed that my ‘82 still has the original tires. Does anyone know what brand would have come with an 82 40? (Mine don’t seem to have a brand name on them)

I believe there is a code on the tire that I dictates the original manufacturer , drop by a tire shop for interpretation.

BFG makes their KM3 Mud Terrain in 7.5R16. They run way small - about 30.5” true radius on the truck, thin, good lugs, and radial.

You need to go to a 16” rim to run them but it’s a nice compromise between stock look and modern construction.

I really like the STA Traxion, am I going to have trouble getting them mounted and balanced by shops?

I've read that the original 40-series size was the 7.00-15, and the 7.60-15. But, I wonder what was the specific tire size that came on my '75 FJ40?
