I just bought a 1977 FJ-40. I need to replace the alternator. The PO removed the toyota plug that plugs into the alternator and just has two terminals . The plug on the back of the alternator had three terminals one vertical and one horizontal. Which ones do I use?

i have the same problem, a wire came out of the back of the clip so i cut it off and ran some new terminas, i'm not looking at it but i believe that you use the top horizontal, and the one vertical.

It should be the left (driver side when mounted) vertical and the horizontal. sorry don't know which color to which post.

On my 12/76 FJ40, it's:

(F) --
| (E) clip
(N) --

top left horizontal - white with green stripe (F)
right vertical by clip - white with black stripe (E)
bottom left horizontal - no connect (N)
