how should i fix this? I was trying to avoid using glue. I've also tryed jamming it in the crack but it doesn't stay. THe front trim is coming off also.

Jeez - and I felt stupid enough not to ask a similar  several months back. Glad you did. Wife backed into her sister's suburban and just nicked the PS rear flare. Buffed out the scuff mark pretty well but the flare is just out of allignment and I've got the same issue with the trim. The trim just won't stay put. Rear flares are held in how? Bolts thru to the rear quarter panel accessable by taking the plastic rear quarterpanel trim off? She may just have broken the very back one and that would be an easy fix.

I thought about taking some scissors and just cutting it off. If you look a little closer you can see where it has been flapping and is beginning to make a rub spot.

Brent, the only dumb question is the one you don't ask.

or, the one Junk asks! hehehe :flipoff2:

Duct tape....

Really though, I think it has a channel that holds it to the flare itself. You might have to pull the flare off to get it back in. Good luck if there is any rust on those little screws...then there is the plastic clippy deals.... I have mine off right now.....That is how I know.

A less than perfect fix, but to keep it from flapping, maybe a little silicon on the back to hold it down?

DRTDuck, thought about that, but was thinking ahead that in the future i may run really large tires and take the flares off. Then i don't want to have all this gue and crap on the truck. As for now, i like the flares.

Yo - since you've taken yours off - how are the rear ones held on? You mention little screws and plastic clippy things.

Yeah, but when you do that, you know you'll want to LineX the flare area anyway, so it'll cover any of that gunk up!

Hey Brentbba,

The one I have off right now if the one on the rear passenger door. The quarter panel ones you have to remove some nuts on the inside of the quarter panels, plus the mud flaps. It was a few years ago that I had the quarter ones off. Thats is all I can recall  :whoops:

The best way to fix it is to remove the flare and fit it back in the channel.
There are 2 metal nuts holding it in and a number (I don't recall how many) plastic clips holding them in too. Be very careful when removing -- it's not too hard to break the part on the flare that connects to the clips.

BTW, if you need the metal deals, let me know -- I save a few of them when I removed my flares (permanently). I didn't keep them all...and lost some of the nuts, but have all the metal bolt thingies.

The flare gasket is secured to the flare and the body by a length of 2 sided tape that is included when you buy the gaskets. You already have a gooey mess to clean up if you remove the flares, so a little more shouldn't make too big a difference. Think Goof-off. I have some of the tape left over from mine, it's yours if you want it, but silicone would probably do the trick. Cheers, Greg.

If you just squirt the silicone on the flare side of the flexibale insert, you won't have any goo on the body. 3-M makes Automotive Weatherstrip Adhesive that should do the trick.

Can someone without fender flares post a pic. so we who do have them can take a gander?

It sounds like an interesting mod....

Best.
