Had to go to the family holiday party today so was only able to spend an hour or so working on the truck. I fitted the hood, checked a couple things then decided to do a second test fire since I didn’t really have the time last night to check all the vitals as I should have.

Even though she fired right up I was surprised to see that the engine appeared to not build oil pressure. The gage was stuck on the first line and didn’t move when rev’d. All other gauges and dash lights are normal.

Shut it down and checked the dip stick. The oil level was in the full zone but WTF, milky oil! So low oil pressure and water in the oil, great...

I pulled the radiator cap, started it again and checked for bubbles or oil, seemed ok. At that point I had to leave for the day I’ve been thinking about what the issues could be...

Since the oil was clean earlier in the project I’m hoping maybe the milky oil is from pressure washing the engine after I pulled it. Tomorrow I will drain the oil and inspect it.

As for the oil pressure I’m a bit stumped. Tomorrow I'll check the torque on the front pully bolt, pull the Napa (WIX) filter and replace it with a new small OEM filter I just got last week. And if I have to I'll troubleshoot the pressure sensor via the FSM.

Any other suggestions on what to look for? Anybody know where this random wire on the oil pressure sensor harness goes?

Spent today draining and replacing the oil, filling the trans and TC with fluid, and bolting up the drive shafts in preparation to test drive it around the block. Thankfully the milky oil issue went away but the oil pressure gauge was still dead after I tried ringing out the harness and cleaning the contacts. I also pulled the alarm and slapped the windshield wipers back on it thinking today would be a home run... Unfortunately as I go to back out of the drive way I notice it doesn't go into reverse...:censor:

All other forward gears work so my first thought is to adjust the shift linkage, nope not it. All the indicators on the dash work, except for the infamous "D" light so I don't think I have an NSS issues and I cleaned and dielectric greased all the harness contacts when I had the eng and trans out so don't think that is an issue, maybe I should just order up an oil pressure sensor and some solenoids...

Whats another 3-4 hundred bucks at this point anyway?
:worms:

I do have a CEL but not sure what it is yet, couldn't find my jumper. Wonder if its from not having any exhaust system past the down pipe and O2 sensors?

Some more parts have arrived, hopefully these are the last parts I’ll need to get this truck on the road.

First up I ordered all new solenoids from Cobra transmissions to fix the issue of it not going into reverse. These guys have good prices and fast shipping! It should be noted that these are Isuzu parts but have Aisin markings and made in Japan.

Also got some orange FIPG for the trans pan and a new oil pressure sensor.

Hope to get these installed this weekend even though it’s forecasting to rain. I need to get this truck to the exhaust shop and then smog inspection before the end of the year...

Also thought I’d post about another good vendor suggested by mud members. Earlier in the project I pulled all the injectors and sent them to be cleaned by RC Injectors in SoCal, again great service and fast turn around. Love to see the improvement that a good cleaning makes for the fuel flow and pattern...

It’s been awhile since I’ve updated this thread, the project has stalled due to what appears to be a major issue with the A442F trans...

So last weekend I braved the pouring rain and crawled underneath the rig to drop the trans pan and replace the solenoids. Seems like an easy enough job but when you’re cold, wet and have trans fluid dripping in your face it’s miserable.

Add to that the fact that once I got it all buttoned back up and refilled with fluid I went to back it out of the driveway, still no reverse!

After I scooped my pride back up off the driveway I decided to push it out and test drive it anyway just to check all the gears. Glad I did too since I discovered I not only don’t have reverse I also don’t have 3rd gear or O/D...

After some research I should have known that slipping in reverse does not mean it has bad solenoids, reverse is purely mechanical. Also Reverse, 3rd gear and O/D all share the same clutch (C2). The FSM “manual shift test” could have saved me $200 on solenoids, guess I should go ahead and source a good used trans to swap into this biotch...

Any other advice would be appreciated...

Being off all last week I was able to squeeze in a few tasks; first I Super Cleaned and pressure washed the bottom of the trans, transfer case and rear axle. I also repaired my rear Land Cruiser emblem and painted the window dust-keeper-offer thing. Ascetically more pleasing rear end now...

I was also able to limp it in 2nd gear all the way across town to my exhaust guy. He installed two new Magnaflow 3391004 cats and a Flowmaster 52458 Super 50 muffler.

I’d normally do the swap myself but I’m out of time and wife says she’d rather I shell out the money than me spend another weekend under the truck. So this morning I loaded the 80 up on a friends trailer and I took it to the local shop (I never take vehicles to the shop so this was very hard for me to do but the local guy is pretty cool and has a 100 series). I did hand him a new OEM filter, input and output seals and OEM FIPG to get the job done.

Some yota on yota action...

Have had some good progress this last weekend. Got the the truck back on Saturday and thankfully everything went smoothly for the local shop and it shifts flawlessly into all gears. I took it for a good extended test drive to put it through it’s paces. Not a lot to report except for an intermittent speedometer, some burnt out lamps in the instrument cluster and blinking diff locker lights. I did the figure eight test in a dirt lot and definitely the lockers work so I think the position sensors need to be replaced. Right birf clicks a little so I’ll swap sides when I rebuild the axles, brakes are decent but vibrate at higher speed.

Sunday I cleaned the leaves and debris from under the cowl and then checked the sunroof and drains. Front drains were good but rear drains appear to have colapsed tubing. I had a feeling this was an issue since I have wet rear seatbelts when it rains. Looks like I will have to pull down the headliner and replace the drains before I install the new carpet kit I ordered. I also installed two new OEM oxygen sensors which cleared the CEL light...

Today I got up early and took it to smog station before work, thankfully she passed and I can finally complete the title transfer and get my license plates!!!

But of course there was a new issue on the drive home from work today...new CEL, yeah! Eight hours earlier and I would have failed smog check...

Now that my 80 is smogged and I have DMV appt tomorrow I’ve planned out my next steps... 35x12.5-17" BFG’s KM3s with Dobinson 3" progressive coils, Fox 2.0 shocks and adjustable from panhard are all in route. Today I need to order front Landtank 2.5” caster plates but they appear to be out of stock everywhere. In the rear a ordered a Delta panhard lift bracket instead of adjustable panhard which will keep the rear from wandering due to the progressive coils. I'll also do sway bar drops front and rear to keep it street-able. Still deciding on bump stop drops but probably I’ll probably order from Slee along with the sway bar drops. I hope to get it all together by the 27th so I can take it to a local Cars and Coffee event....

My bad. I didn’t update the site. You are good to go.

Yesterday I modified my SCS Ray 10’s, I used my buddies oscillating drum sander. Had to take off the table and replace it with a piece of plywood so the drum would reach the hub bore.

nicely done!

All of the parts for my lift have now arrived and just in time for a weekend with no family plans and good weather!

Dobinson 3” progressive coils, adjustable front panhard and steering damper. Fox 2.0 shocks. Slee sway bar and bump stop drops as well as extended brake lines and transfer case skid. Lastly I got Land tank caster plates and a Delta rear panhard lift bracket.

Define "Super Clean" procedure...looks super clean!

Define "Super Clean" procedure...looks super clean!

Thx, well first I hit the offending area with some of this:

Super Clean

Then I blast it off with one of these:

Pressure Washer

Careful with the Super Clean though, if left on too long it will take off paint...

Also for tough, caked on deposits, I've been known to run hot water though the pressure washer.

Spent a couple half days this weekend working on installing the rear lift. First I pulled the old springs and shocks:

Then I cleaned and painted the rear axles. After the paint dried I installed the Delta bracket and extended brake line.

To clear the Delta bracket I manipulated the ABS wire harness tube, shortened the mount by about 1” and then drilled a new hole:

After that I installed the shocks, sway bar and bump stop drops.
