Finally tackling the tranny cooler install and replacing the cooling lines. What a pain

So I'm taking a break at the moment from trying to get to the cooling line fittings and unions that are on the transmission itself. Had to pull the front driveshaft off to be able to get my arm up there, but man what a pain this is. I'm converting to all -6AN fittings and line so it can be a "once and done" job. Just thought I'd take a short break to gripe. Sure wish I had a lift to use to make this job easier.

Edit, ARGH I can NOT break these fitting loose!

@Spook50 where are you getting stuck?

The transmission fitting coming out of the transmission is pretty easy to take off. Its just a 14mm x 1.5 (same as the fittings that go into the radiator transmission cooler. It is definitely hard to get the existing line off at the unions without some good leverage. I don't have a lift, but I am pretty skinny, so I just wrench on my back for two hours to get my lines in order. I used the existing brackets with my braided -6AN line so there was minimal change to the existing setup.

My only short-sighted issue was I didn't have enough hose to do both the the hot and return lines, so i still have half of the way to go. I take it that you are also adding an auxiliary transmission cooler?

It was the compression fitting on the actual line that was stuck. Once I managed to break those loose (and smash my knuckles) everything else came off easily. Finally got the -6AN unions on and now I just have to finish removing the factory lines and run the new line. I got 20ft of line so hopefully that'll be plenty to do the job.

Still working on it. I removed the fittings entirely from the transmission and installed 14mm to male -6AN unions using the 14mm O rings and thread sealer. I have 90 degree -6AN fittings with push-on hose barbs that I'll be using for a soft line going clear to the radiator and the aux cooler. I'm doing this at the same time as swapping out my radiator and am right now fighting a nasty cold, so it'll be another few days before I get it all buttoned up.

Sorry to hear that man. It is that time of year, seasons changing. What you did with the transmission is what I had problems with. I could not figure out how or what fittings to get to replace the fittings on the transmission. I left the old lines to the radiator and put new lines from there to the cooler and back but I want to replace the old ones to the transmission as well. I hope you get feeling better soon.

Yeah it wasn't difficult once I broke loose the compression fittings on the lines themselves. Then I was able to get an 11/16 on the right angle fittings, turn them a bit, then a 19mm on the unions on the tranny housing itself. Those came loose easily and I was able to get them off with my fingers. O-Rings looked to still be in perfect shape so I put them on the AN unions and used some thread sealer to ensure they won't leak. Just gotta get out there and finish undoing the hard line mounts coming off the engine block, run the new lines and put in the new radiator.

I went through this. I ended up getting a shop to reuse the factory fittings. If you cut off the metal band it is just a barb fitting. My local napa had some old crimpable bands that were the right size. I think I rmember him saying they were from A/C lines they used to make up.

From Summit part # BRG-925121 6an to 16mm x 1.5 inverted flare. Connects to braided trans soft line. Must have inverted flare. 14mm out of radiator.
