I really like my 20" from Black Oak. However they aren't your typical Amazon $100 LED light bar company either. I've heard of OPT7 and they seem to have a lot of positive reviews. There seems to be a LOT of fly-by-night light bar companies these days.

Not the cheapest unless you find a ebay deal, etc - but build quality of all components are worthy of mid-level pricing.
Lenses, all components are decently overbuilt, extrusion for bars (all I've seen/have of theirs) is amplifier case quality, no cheap cast flaws, more like T-rated AL.

Unless your life depends on it, get the cheapest one you can find, and take it apart to reseal/waterproof it. Of all the dead ones I have seen, all had failed due to water intrusion.

Buy the cheapest you can find, and then go compare it to the most expensive one you can find. They were probably both built in the same factory by the same pair of hands. Maybe do the waterproofing as mentioned above by @mct75 if feeling ambitious.

The cheap one might be overdriving the diodes to get a better output for cheaper at the expense of longevity, but in my experience a light bar only gets turned on a handful of times in its life anyway.

Eyourlife from Amazon. $59 for a 162W CREE lightbar. For twisty east coast trails, the flood pattern is perfect.

Look for CREE LED's. The Epistar LED's do not put out the same amount of light. You can and need to verify the LED type through pictures online.

I've tried 2 different types of Amazon CREE LED flood lamps, 4 LED's and 6 LED's in each light cluster.

IMO, I didn't really like the bright white LED light they put out. I guess it is just personal preference. So far my favorite have been the PIAA 7" HIR (I think?) I had about 10 years ago but were $250+. A close second were the Kragen HID's. I don't think those Kragen HID's are as cheap as they used to be though.... But I was impressed with the light output for desert driving.

Are the full length (~50 in) LED light bars worth it?

What do you mean by "Period correct?"
Keep the lights more in line with the manufacture period of the truck.

I said it tongue in cheek, but was kind of serious too. I know the power consumption is less, but I think light bars look out of place on older cruisers.

It could also be because every bro'd out truck that looks like it's towing an really heavy invisible trailer is covered with LEDs
